I was trying to add the step by step shots and screwed up the main photo, next time I will know better.

Outstanding tube fly, Marty! This looks like a killer trout pattern. Would you be able to post a couple pictures of the key tying steps for this fly. I need to give this a try.

Welcome aboard! :D

Nice tie Marty. Would you be the same Marty Howard from Spinner Fall?

Marty......just wondering, wouldn't it have been easier to have just left the foam strips longer over the "eye" and folded them back over as opposed to tying in new pieces of foam at the head?....just curious

cool pattern and i'll bet it floats better than on a full hook. Vern i was thinking the same thing but maybe Marty has a reason so we will wait for him. leaving the top piece sticking out the front would likely make a good skater too. thanks Marty and the pics look good too.

Vern – yes it would and yes I have tried. I found that it was necessary to cut a wider strip for the bullet head to envelope the mass created by the wing and the compressed foam. If you look close you can see how I place the bullet head foam in front of the tied down ends of the wing to minimize bulk. I guess if you were in a hurry and did not care about a gap in the bullet head, it would be a lot faster.

Now you have me thinking. Maybe if I cut a taper in the foam to match to two different widths, one could tie the fly with just two strips of foam.

Yes this fly floats like there is no tomorrow,
