the saltydog 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2009 Those look great, I have never seen Czech nymphs with a raffine shell. I'm glad to see you back to posting. They would be perfect for the Czech nymph swap! Best, Greg
Harold Ray 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2009 Those are beautiful! Where do you buy your raffia? Got a link? Since raffia is a natural fiber and biodegradable, I wonder how long flies made of it will last? However long, I'm sure they'll do the job. Thanks! the saltydog 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2009 Ray - You can pick this up at a craft store, such as Michael's. Also there is synthetic raffia which doesn't breakdown and I think it easier to work with. It comes in a many colors, included a nice pearl one. -Greg

dwiltshire 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2009 Thanks folks. Try Niche products for the rafffine: http://www.nicheflytying.com/ I also use some made by Gordon Griffiths. But I am unsure if this is still available. Best, Dave.
Arkansas Mike 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2009 swiss straw is the synthetic raffia and it also takes markers very well for color I use a ton of swiss straw (wingcases, scudbacks, etc). Great stuff. I also use real raffia I pick up at the craft store...I think people use it for flower arrangements???? Both are nice looking and are fun to work with. Like RRSHS says, swiss straw accepts markers well. Mike
