Ray Bergman Collection by Don Bastian

Recommended Posts

Don and I have been working on this for the past several months and I am excited to finally be able to unveil this to the public. The entire Ray Bergman Collection featuring flies tied by Don Bastian will be exclusively showcased on the Hatches website. My hope is to release ten new patterns each week. I want to personally thank Don for taking on and agreeing to this project and once all of the flies are unveiled I think it is going to be something spectacular.

One unique feature of this project is the links within the material list. For example the phrase "Gold Tinsel" will be a link that directs you to a page with all of the other patterns in the collection that also incorporate gold tinsel.

Don's Intro

This photographic collection of traditional wet fly patterns, recipes, and notes, when completed, will contain four-hundred eighty-three flies selected from Ray Bergman’s books. This number was determined by including all the illustrated wet fly patterns from Trout in the first edition and the new wet flies on Plate No. 16 from the second edition. Additional patterns not represented in Trout were chosen from Just Fishing and With Fly, Plug, and Bait to round out this ‘Bergman Collection’ of wet flies. A few wet fly patterns from Trout appearing in the other two books containing significant recipe variations are included here as well. read the entire intro

Incredible! I can't wait to see the entire set. That was an unbelievable amount of work and you have no idea how much it is appreciated. "Thanks guys" just doesn't seem to cut it.

Thank you

John

I agree with John, "Thanks" doesn't seem like enough. I hear this name all the time and know of a few books of his, unfortunately they are not available at my library and purchasing is out of the question at this juncture. I guess a big heartfelt "Thank You" is the best I can offer.

That's awesome and an incredible amount of work. Ray Bergman's "Trout" was one of the first fishing books I bought, so I am looking forward to browsing this collection. Thanks so much.

Thanks Wil & Don!!

Ray Bergman's Trout is a fantastic book!

I've gotten a lot of information and technique just from reading the book.

I've been a forum member since 2005 and never had much time to post anything

but I think this is a great forum. Sorry it took me so long. :wallbash:

Thanks again

Mike

The Bob Lawrence is a gorgeous fly. I wish there was video of some of these being tied. Thanks so much for putting up the pictures and all the work. It is an amazing job.
