bhansensfd 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2012 Curious to know what everyone is using for tapered leaders. I am currently using Rio 7X 9ft and 12ft. They are $12 for a 3 pack and I was wondering if there was any other tapered leaders out there that are the same or close to the same in quality but less expensive. Crackaig 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2012 Currently I useBarrio tapered leaders. They are very good, half what you are paying, and shipped free.. Recently I've also used Caimore. They are not as good a quality as the Barrio ones though I've not had any problems. Both are a lot less than you are paying. For river work I build my own furled leaders. Cheers, C. perchjerker 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2012 I make, and use, furled leaders, to which I just add a tippet.
Possumpoint 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2012 I've gotten lazy and just use straight tippet material. I've never fished technical waters that require differently.
Piker20 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2012 I use a mix of above. I've found the Daiwa Wilderness tapered leaders fine, I use a Riverge 12ft fluro leader for my tube flies which is good. I have some bluesky furled leaders which are good and I also make stepped down leaders from mono but less and less so. If I am fishing deep then I tend to stick to a level length of 6-10ft line.
