Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2012 Just returned home a couple days ago from my annual 16 days on the Au Sable. I go up there to my cabin about every month but once a year I take 2 weeks and spend at the cabin fishing. My family has been doing this since the 1940's and they started taking me before I was even 1 yr old so this year marked the 40th year I have been going to the Au Sable. This one was a great one! I'll keep it short with the descrips... Give it a minute to load all the pics, I will split them up so they load faster but there are a bunch of them. Packed freeway leaving the city ... Finally out of the traffic and headed North with my boat..... On the road North later than usual but headed to a nice sunset.... First day up North, walking the hiking trails and coming across a rest camp cabin for hikers on Silver Creek... Bridge over Silver Creek... Silver Creek...... A 21.25" Master Angler fly caught Smallmouth .... The 8" fly the 21" bass came on... After hiking in 2 miles...... More to come................... Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2012 A red headed woodpecker on a feeder I put out at the cabin this year These are the stairs at Iargo Springs on the Au Sable. There are 300 stairs that go directly down the side of a big hill to the natural cold water springs at the bottom which is where the first indians made camps many years ago. I always enjoy going down there but had not done so in the past 10 yrs since it was a bit of a climb coming back up. But this year since I am no longer a smoker and have lost over 120lbs it was no problem for me at all to do it. Me and my Niece & Nephew at the springs Some young Largemouth bass swimming in the cooler waters of the springs More to come...............

Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2012 At least the chocolate chip cookies my sister made didn't go to waste, these guys came up on the cabin deck every night to partake in some delicious treats. There were three of them so I named them Fred, Lamont & Grady How do you know when you have done a LOT of fishing? When you have blisters from fly casting at the halfway point of the trip. This is what happens when you fly cast for 8hrs each day. The new & improved thinned down Steeldrifter and his 115hp chariot of the past 2 weeks A couple of nice Perch Cody caught one morning Another good smallie on the fly Some gills taken on top water foam hopper patterns More to come........... Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2012 The bounty after a morning of birch bark hunting (I use it for some fancy rod grips I make) Sitting in me casa after a long day of fishing uploading pics & videos from the day to my new fishing laptop I bought before vacation A pair of Sand Cranes in a field. Always a neat bird to see. Evening fire roasting marshmellows back at the cabin after a long day on the river My favorite spot on the river to sit and watch the sunset. My dad use to take me to this spot all the time to see the sunset when I was a little boy. And that does it for the pictures. I hope you guys enjoyed them, I know I enjoyed the trip immensely this year and am already looking for ward to the next trip back to the cabin sometime next month. I still have a ton of video to upload from my laptop and edit into a watchable 10 min or so HD video so I will get that done shortly for you to see.
