Yep it's the Lace leaf species of Japanese maple.

Mike wait till you see the tree I am about to get. My childhood friend just offered me a 20+ year old Lace leaf Japanese maple from his dads yard because they just moved his Dad to an assisted living home. His dad use to be into Bonsai so even thought it's a yard tree and 20 yrs old, he hard pruned it every year so it's less than 30" tall (Bonsai baby!). And it's all mine to dig up!

 

I just took a pic of it today, I'll resize it and post in a minute.

That looks like it will be a fantastic tree.

Be careful when you're digging it up. You'll need to allow new shallow root growth before severing the tap root, if it's too long.

There's a way to do it, but I'd have to research it. You should look it up before proceeding. If it's getting too much from the tap root and you cut it, the tree will die.
