However I would like to know your source on the late 1800s thing. Im not challenging you, I just would love to see a 19th C reference to crappie. As the above poster pointed out, this thread really highlights the regional differences of this country, which I find cool. I realize most people call them crappie, but here in central Florida you rarely hear that, theyre speckled perch, regardless of what the accepted name is everywhere else.
