Bras D'or Creeper 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2005 Smelt Muddler to be exact, my favorite for early season trout. Great pattern.
Guest Report post Posted April 9, 2005 Weighted Zonker would be my favorite OSD.
vices 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2005 I usually wait till everything warms up to start throwing the muddlers..
finZilla 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2005 Definitely a geographic question. I would dive in with a 52 Buick myself, unless Cutties were on the menu then the Muddler would probably dawn the end of my line.
Guest Report post Posted April 11, 2005 For Northeastern PA I use a black or grey bodied caddis pupa. John
blackdog1101 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2005 I've been fly fishing for trout for about 30 years. I don't think I've ever caught a trout on a muddler. I think they've got some sort of fish repellant built into them.
fishyfranky 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2005 As long as you know how to wiggle your woolly bugger, no fish is safe!
fly~by~night 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2005 On woolybuggers...is it best to use an idicator? or fly it solo?
rougetrout 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 Out of those two flies I would fish a muddler, specifically a marabou muddler which is a good comprimise between buggers and muddlers, good action from a marabou wing but flash and nice head style/size from the muddler. Very effective early season fly.
Laxi 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 Wooly bugger maybe catches more fish but it is more fun to fish the muddler minnow, especially when it floats and the trout comes up to the suface to get it. Last sea trout I caught was on 26.march and I caught the fish on muddler minnow
Redleg 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 QUOTE (OSD @ Apr 9 2005, 07:43 AM) Weighted Zonker would be my favorite OSD. Yup
ArkieFlyGuy 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 Olive (or other color) buggers are more productive for me. But mudders seem to attract the bigger browns... especially at night.
