  1. Well I took some shoots with the new camera. Let me know what you think. Still learning about all the options and everything.
  2. Just got my first DSLR camera. Since I read I can use my older Minolta film lenses with the Sony's, I got the SLT-A57K. As I charge the battery I figured I would ask if anyone has any experience with this camera? I will take any help I can get. I also picked up a magazine on Digital Photography for Beginners. I am looking forward to my begging in photography.
  3. Here is one. http://caseysmartt.com/2009/11/15/smartts-glass-minnow/
  4. Size 24. Do not think I could tie them that small and make them look that great. Nice tie Kimo.
  5. The bottom one looks cool. Thanks Kimo
  6. After watching videos and searching the web, I finally sat down and ties up some Mysis Shrimp to use for Tenkara. I am hoping the gills and trout will love these. Only time will tell. I started with size 14 then went to size 16. Here are the pics. Let me know what you think. If you fish mysis shrimp patterns, what ones do you like to use and tie? I am looking for more to try. Mike P.

  10. I have not used the Ekich bobbin so I can not comment on how it works or there warranty but , I think it is 1 year. I do now that Norm stands behind his product. I had a problem with the first automatic bobbin after 3 years. It was not retracting. I contacted Norm and he sent out a replacement. You can get the Nor-Bobbin and a pack of spools for the cost of the Ekick. About the only real mod I have thought about doing is some sort of regular bobbin holder to use regulars bobbins. I have mine mounted on a piece of Corian solid surface material. One tip I recommend is practice cutting the thread off and put it on the thread post. Just take a spare hook and wrap thread on, lay down a base, then tie off and cut thread. This will help you keep the thread from being retracted if not done correctly when using the Nor-Bobbin.
  11. They look good. Here is another way to do eyes.
  12. Too late for a patent. http://www.floatmasterco.net/
  13. I have been thinking of trying some snatcher patterns while tenkara fishing. I was wondering if anyone has used these patterns with either western gear or tenkara. These are quick easy flies to tie that seem to be popular if Europe. They also seem to be very easy to adapt color patterns to these patterns. I have tied some up on size 10 Orvis 62KC hooks. I am looking to also tie some size 14 hooks. Either TMC 2487 or Mustad C49S hooks. Let me know what you think about using these. Mike P.
  14. Instead of fishing today, I decided to get me a new fly box. Since I plan on doing some steelheading this year I figured I better get my fly organized. After buying a new fly box from Fly Master I came home and put the flies I plan to use for steelheading in there. All I need to do now is hit the water with my new box and try to keep it organized for future trips. Here are some pics. Hope you enjoy. I still have room for some smaller patterns like estaz eggs and some more caddisfly and stones.

Thank You utyer. Burman's Candle Robber seems to be the winner. I new some one would have the answer for me.
  16. I need some help Identifying a fly I bought. I bought this fly at the Cleveland Orvis Store on Chagrin Boulevard. I was looking for the name to order some but I can not find it on the Orvis Site. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike P.
  17. Beautiful place you have to fish. Always good to get out in places like that.
  18. Only thing is I think I should have put some music to it. Not sure if I can just use any ole song or what though. Would hat to break the copyright laws.
  19. Well I took some footage of me using my tenkara rod at the pond and made a video. I think I had the angle of the camera to low but did get some okay footage. I ended uo using windows live movie maker for editing. This was easier to figure out than Picasa 3. The video ended up being just over 11 minutes and took forever to upload. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
  20. Thanks for the tips. I have a couple other cameras I could use but I would hate to use them on a tripod while wadding or attached to a tree and end up forgetting them or someone take them while I am fishing. I guess I will have to try to make do or find a few friends to fish with.
  21. First off I am using a Nikon COOLPIX AW100 to take videos from a modified go pro chest mount. I took some videos today of me fishing but had the angle a little off, but did get some video. I am looking for pointers on getting better videos. What angle should the camera be, what setting (HD1080p 1920x1080) (HS 15fps 1920x1080) (HS 60fps 1280x720), or anything else such as sun to the back. Then I need to know what software to use. I have only did one other edit job using windows live movie maker with a few tips from vimeo. Seemed to be okay but will take time to get used to it. I am not sure if the camera was zoomed in at all or not I just turned it on set the setting to the HD 1080p with auto focus on then started filming. I was looking to cut and paste some video together with a couple of pics taken from the video I took. I guess the editing will come with experience from using the program. Any help is appreciated. Mike P.
  22. What type of flies where they if they where not Tenkara? Do you remember who the tier in the article was? Might be easier to track down. Mike P.
  23. The problem with mono line for Tenkara is it is not dense enough. You need the weight of the fluorocarbon to cast a tenkara rod. You want the hi-viz to be able to see you line. TenkaraBums line is the brightest available. Other than that you could go to a furled line.
  24. Gene L., I have a Nor-vise that I use. It did take a little bit to get used to using the rotary function of the vise. I had a cheap rotary vise before the nor-vise that was a real pain to use the rotary function on. The ease of this on the nor-vise is what drawn me to it. I watch all the videos on you tube over and over for at least a year before I purchased mine. As others have said to each his own. Vises are just like cars, some like fords and some like chevys. Just need to try them until you find the one you like. Mike P.
