  1. February's flies may be a little late, I have only received a few of the flies and have an update from one of the tiers that they are running late. Blane

  3. Got some really nice looking bugs in from BBBruce in today's mail.
  4. Has anyone seen Riff on lately, I am wondering what happened to him, his flies from January still haven't arrived and I've tried to contact him to no avail. Blane

  7. You seem to have had an all around bad trip, unless of course you got to do more than 2 casts at fish. Blane
  8. Still waiting on one set, haven't heard from then in a bit, so I sent another pm today. Blane
  9. Wine corks sanded down with a dremmel work great also. I use a Copic air brush to paint mine, it's so easy and there is no real clean up afterwards. Blane
  10. Try [email protected] or [email protected] either one of those guys will be able to answer your questions. Blane
  11. Shoebop, your great looking nymphs showed up today in the mail, nice job. Blane
  12. Welcome to the forum, there are plenty of guys from the areas you've chosen as home waters. I just happen to live in Dallas, TX though. Try joining in on the swaps, they are the best on the web. Blane
  13. Got mine in the mail today, great looking flies!!! I hope to be able to use them this summer in either AR or OK on the trout. Thanks for hosting vicrider, it was a great swap. Blane
  14. I once saw an Ocelot pelt for sale on ebay, but by the time I contacted the FWS of the state the seller was in the item was already sold. I know Ocelot's are protected in the states and this pelt was located in WA state. I don't know if I would use such an item for tying flies though, I don't know if I could do that with a clear conscience. Blane
  15. I've had this happen twice to me. 1. I was fishing in Northern Manitoba off a dock catching small perch, when I was reeling in a smaller one the line started screaming off the reel and the rod bent to the water. I had an idea what happened but wasn't really sure, I was 14 and had seen large pike in the #10 range swimming around the docks and low and behold I landed a #6 pike that had swallowed a 6" perch. I really didn't want to stick my hand in his mouth to get the hook back so we clobbered him so I could get my hook and the small perch back. He made some nice steaks for dinner. 2. I was night fishing off Catalina Island docks when I had a small hit and hook-up, I got the fish within 25' of the dock when the strike from something else hit and the line started racing off the reel. It ripped off about 200' of line until it hit the end then about pulled the rod out of my hand, it was 20# test. The line snapped and I don't know if I was more relieved or pissed at what had just happened. We decided to call it a night and didn't do any more night fishing the rest of the time on the island. I found out later that some pretty big sharks come in the cove at night but it never even flinched when I tried to turn it, it just ripped the line like it wasn't even there.
  16. What makes this thread so great? I am thinking about trying it out but am not sure on what size to get, I do most of my tying with 6/0 or 8/0 mostly 8/0.
  17. Tony, great ties!! First set for February has arrived, still waiting on one set from January to arrive. Blane
  18. I have a very close alternative to polar bear, in that the Great Pyrenees that rules the house donates more than I will ever use. Her hair is white with what looks like clear hair mixed in. Blane
  19. Evan, they are on the way as of Wednesday, so you should have them soon. Blane
  20. Due to an automobile accident Homer had to drop out of the club, he can't tie in his cast and has to have it on for a while so we will be one short this month so I will be mixing up the extra flies that we have so that no one gets theirs back. We are also looking for an alternate. Blane

    OOOOPS

One can find around the neck zip seal bags for phones and cameras on ebay in the states. I got mine for doing volunteer work here in Texas. If you can get it out of the water fast enough, put it in the sun on a car dashboard, or just leave it out in a warm area after removing the battery as fast as you can and do a lot of waiting, usually at least a couple of days, also a blow dryer can aid in the amount of time it takes to dry out. Blane
  22. I just received a new set of Danvise jaws and they are not the same as the original set I had for the vise. My original set of jaws started to curl at the tip where the hook is positioned and could no longer hold hooks smaller than a size #10 or #12. I thought the jaws would be made from tempered steel and therefore not bend or become misshaped, but I was wrong, after only a few hundred flies the jaws were no longer usable for many hook sizes. Which makes me wonder about the product itself, as an entry level device I think it should last much longer than it did. I tie on sizes 10-18 most often and I wondered if any one else has had this problem with a Danvise. Thanks for you responses Blane
  23. This is a really cool swap, I had absolutely no idea what I was going to get back before they arrived, and I got a great bunch of flies in return. It had to take some time to sort them all out and get them reassigned. Thanks again horseshoes. Blane
  24. Ok, I thought I sent my flies out 2 weeks ago, sorry guys they will be in the mail tomorrow. I just found them in my tying bag. I appologize for them being late. Blane
