  1. I will put in my two cents.I think that accuracy is what you should be aiming at.also working on the back cast, loading the rod will make your presentation better and your distance improve. Keep on chuckin' Bryan 'Salty Fly'

  5. I was looking for some tips for getting palmered schlappen to lay back.I was trying to get the collar of a streamer,I am working on to lay back.I went to a tying demo, they were tying large streamers with schlappen collars. The tyer was pulling the barbs back with every wrap,he got the hackle to lay back nicely, the tyer made it look fairly simple. The problem I am haveing is every time the hackle stands back up right.I pull the barbs back but they pop right back up,I have tryed to wet it a little when I work it.Any tips for tying this style of hackle would help. Thanks, and tight lines Bryan"Salty Fly'
  6. Most of my bass fishing I use an 8# with a fast tip,I over line it with a 9# S.A. bass taper fly line.Thats my two cents. Bryan'Salty Fly'
  7. Heres a pic of my first rockfish on the fly.this little guy had my 8wt. bent to the butt.
  8. Hey Bryan- WTG!!! Were you fishing from the shore or out in a boat of some kind? I've never targeted them specifically with the fly rod, but they'd be a worthy fish. I have a kayak now, and am hoping to get out before the season shuts down again. Try a crease fly on top next time you go out for them...I have a couple friends that just kill the rockies on topwater. went out of san simeon,in my buddys 14' aluminum boat.I did bring some of my balsa bass poppers and sliders, but i did not use them.I did hear that the top water can be hot.I will pozst a pic of my firts rockfish after my buddy emails it to me.now I need get a new rod and reel for rockfish, just what my wife wants to hear. tight lines Bryan 'salty fly'

  11. Just got Fish Skulls, checking them out.I have not used this product before, these are cool little things.can I get to it ride hook point up or down by placement of the Fish Skull head?On the bag it shows you putting the rounded side down,it rides low on the hook shank. If I flip it over so the rounded part is on the top of the hook, the hook should roll over and ride hook point up.Well I am going to mess around with them, get out on the water and swim a few diferent ties around and see what happens. Thanks,Bryan"salty Fly"
  12. Great tie,I need to tie up some for the largmouth around my neck of the woods.
  13. I like the norm as far as the green and yellow, black and orange with a little yellow.blue and white like a big dragon fly.I fish poppers a lot early in the cold greay light of dawn or after the sun has set.I dont really know witch colors matter when it is dark. The other night I fished for two hrs. not one hit. Around 9 or so it was getting dark fast.I needed to get back to the truck.I tied my last popper on,I vaporized one with a back cast in to my truck earler in the day,So tyed on my last popper in my box,the good old green and yellow on the third cast, wham! and landed a 8# largmouth. It was dark when he hit.I wonder if he saw just black or heard the popper doing its thing, dont really know.
  14. I have tryed rubber bands colored with sharpies, worked ok,for free anyway.
  15. cotter pins work for replacment for the front hook.
  16. For my bass rig on my 8wt.,I nail knot a 20# butt the 14# fluoro. leader to butt are loop to loop,I like the perfection loop.simple, fast and it works.I fish big bugs in thick cover for big largmouth bass, got an 8 pounder lastnight around 9 at night, just as it was getting dark,on a popper.what fun.
  17. Howdy, Welcome,Thats a nice bug. What size and brand/type are the hooks?I have been tying articulated bass patterns a lot, messing around with differnt hooks trying to get it right.my flies are about 4" or so.Again nice job,and welcom to the board. Bryan "salty Fly"
  18. Thanks guys,I have tryed to keep a log book a few times before but like most of you I never kept it up,oh well. It would be cool to see all info after a year or so.Last year,in my tide book I kept days fished and if I got skunked or not.I think its a pain in the butt,if I stick to it,make it a habit it should not be to bad. Thanks Bryan'Salty Fly'
  19. My big yellow Lab Loves buck tail, ate up my buck tail.He has not got in to any feathers but he has ate a couple chickens,so he must like feathers. They did not hurt him,two chickens, thats a lot of feathers.
  20. Been thinking about starting a log book.Keeping all the info about my day on the water, all local conditions, times, tides(for saltwater),wind, temp any other observation I find.I think keeping a log book I will see a bigger picture of what is going on out there.Let me know what you think and if you are useing one, what is going in your log book.I tried too start one last year, beside days fished and if I hooked up or not,I really did not wright any thing down. Any tips would help. Thanks, Bryan'Salty Fly'
  21. Yup, he's right on! I tryed to tie in an weed guard, but I tyed it in at the eye to early before I finished the dub body so I cut it off.On the pics you can kind of see it. The next one I tyed,I tyed in the mono and wraped to the rear down the bend, finished the fly, after the epoxy dried,I tyed back on at the eye,put the tag end of the mono in to the eye,A few wraps.then pull the mono just to the front of the wraps, few stronger wraps, whip finish.I use that kind of weed gaurd on some of my flies salt and fresh.most of my flies ride hook point up with dumb bell or bead chain eyes.I think I will try to make some of these hook point up,A dumb bell tyed in to the body,on the top of the hook mabey? I dont know,It's just fun to mess around.Thank for the help. Bryan'Salty Fly'
