  1. Cant speak for everyone but I dont use wire leader for musky! Generally speaking we use 80-100lb flouro
  2. Id be happy to help where I can. Some good ideas Steve. My thoughts definitely go out to his friends and family.
  3. Yep, change it too sometime in late March /Early April and I will make sure it coincides with a steelhead trip at my cabin and I will for sure show up with myself and a fishing buddy. Just a thought. Unless Ben is there, then I won't come. Sounds about right lol
  4. Whats wrong with this look?? I heard its "IN" now!?!? Waders slip on nice and easy now too.
  5. Nice!!! Post a pic of your fly with the very interesting name lol
  6. YOU FISHED WITH PJ and SURVIVED??? Consider yourself very lucky.. Last time I saw PJ was in the paper.. he wasn't looking real good. In all seriousness, its cool you made it down there. One of these days I hope I can too. Looks like a cool area and a nice place to fish. Plus its mighty close to Bluewater fishing..
  7. Sculpin helmets make some mean flies! I'd love to see larger packages
  8. I think we should change the date to the spring! Sept is a toughie for me. Usually a vacation month. Just a thought!! I planned on coming this time until I realized it was the same weekend as my fishing trip to Cali!!
  9. I came to this site as a rookie wee little newbie fly tyer and still years later I am still a rookie wee little newbie fly tyer.. BUT with that being said Ive met some great people here (on and off the forum) and have learned a ton. Not only that I have laughed my ass off at the computer screen, mostly in the salty section with the other misfits such as myself. Im with jam..GROUP HUGGGG!!!!
  10. WOW. That was a steal. Looks like a real good cape.
  11. I agree. I just cant do it... However I have seen some people use the Pro HD colored jungle cock and it looked pretty good!
  12. Hey ditz: These are a foam popper/slider I make from a 2 part expanding foam. It is seriously strong stuff. I can hit the head of it with a hammer and not cause much damage. Sometimes just a crack. The through wire is a piece of 90lb surflon wire. In order to do make the heads I carved a "proto-type" have you will, made a mold, and now I just pour! Painting is pretty easy. The bait painters at the shop I sell at usually do it for me. The particular ones I did some with a spray can and they did some of the details with the air brush.
  13. Peak with saltwater jaws. Ive tied up to a size 10/0 4x strong hook in it without any problems. I actually did a bucktail jig for someone at my local shop and that was a 10/0 treble.
  14. My poppers are all made from a 2 part foam. It is incredibly hard but extremely light. To give you an idea I can hit the popper with a hammer and it will still be fine. Occasionally it will crack, but generally not through. Its the best way I came up with for commercially making them. I can crank them out pretty quick.
  15. With the split nails (since I fish all my flies) I run it over the top of the dubbing wax. It puts it back together nicely.
  16. Tie with A LOT less fiber. EP and similar styles are meant to be somewhat "see-through" if that makes sense. Without sinking line I am afraid those may float. Keep at it and you'll get the hang of it! I encourage anyone tying EP style baitfish to get a membership to the EP site. His video tutorials are fantastic.
  17. Cant speak for Capt Bob but my normal flies I use in MI are musky so you are right on. 10wt all day, textured line, and 10-14" flies!!
  18. Will do Jam. As I type im checking in from 30,000'! I hoping that squid makes friends with a lot of fishies :-)
  19. I gotten a couple from the seller in Estonia and have been quite pleased!
  20. Well done bassmouth!! Hell..thats an understatement. Congrats on a good day out there.
  21. AK... Im interested in what you have your threads stored in!!??!! Look pretty nice.. Care to share?
  22. Thanks!! They were nice and easy! It helped that my bucktail was really long as well!
