  1. Not a problem Will, just take it easy and do what you need to do to get back up to speed. Take care.
  2. Steeldrifter - Would your familly consider adopting me ??
  3. I got a copy of "Fly Fishing Small Sreams" by John Gierach and "The Compleat Schwiebert" by Ernest Schwiebert. I've read JG's book twice already. Schwiebert's book is a collection of short pieces that are amazing reading. Nomad, I have that one - it's a great reference for scouting new water.
  4. I'm in, Calf Tail Trout Clouser
  5. The dubbing twister is a tool for making dubbing loops, a really good way to apply dubbing for a "buggy" look. Some dubbing tools have a weight at the bottom to help when you spin the thread. I'm not aware of any tutorials here on the forum about making dubbing loops, but there are quite a few floating around on the web. Maybe someone can help with a more specific link.
  6. Just wanted to wish everyone a pleasant, peaceful Christmas with family and friends. If you're traveling over Christmas, be careful and have a safe trip. Merry Christmas, everyone.
  7. I think equipment makers should check this forum to get ideas for improving thier products.
  8. I normally whip finsh and then add a very small drop of super glue into the center of the post using a syringe with a very fine needle. The glue seems to bleed out to the hackle stem ok. Never had any trouble with them coming apart. Have never tried just gluing and no whip finish.
  9. Wow! That is one great bench. I'm sure you'll put it thru its paces this winter. (Great book, too)

You know, when I first started frequeting this site, I was really impressed by everyone's flies, tips and tricks, and so on, BUT THIS IS THE LAST STRAW - giving hints on how to keep your bench clean! C'mon guys!
  11. :headbang: Great looking flies! Really like the poppers. Looks like you guys covered quite a bit. Great job.
  12. I could see myself hanging around there. Good luck with it.
  13. maddog is right, my bad. Not a good idea. Think that used to be called "beaver fever", kind of like those folks who used to lick their brushes when they painted the luminescent hands on watches.
  14. Don't scare us like that again. Always check with wife/girlfriend/mother before liberating any utensil for tying. I know; maybe some day Ill show you the scars. :crying:
  15. Good suggestion, Flyweaver - great source for info and patterns.
  16. NO! NO! DON"T put in shag carpeting. I set one on fire once when I tipped over a fondue pot. Exciting evening, last date with that young woman. Also had a green shag rug in one of my kid's room, and a dog who couldn't get it thru his head that it wasn't grass.
  17. A Teacher once told (an awfully long time ago) me the only stupid question is an unasked question. Don't feel funny about asking questions here, we all started at the same place. Don't throw out the marabou, it's great stuff, but it really goes all over the place when you tie it dry. Try wetting your fingers and stroking the marabou, that will make it easier to handle, and give you an idea of what it will look like in the water. That way, you should be able to judge the amount you need. Hope that helps.
  18. Need an addy, these flys are ready for a road trip.
  19. Mike, I really hope you get your wish. The youngest of my 6 kids is 18, so no more having to get up at 5 AM to see if Santa was there. My wish is a few more trips up to Manton. The Chase & Morrisy are my favorites. Been going up there for 40yrs.
  20. Welcome James. Fly fishing and tying is the main language spoken here. Don't be shy about asking questions, there are a lot of folks here who will be glad to give you a hand.
  21. Welcome. Looking forward to seeing some of your work.
  22. Welcome. Lots of great folks here, with just about any kind of info you're looking for. Pull up a chair and make yourself comfortable.
  23. I'd get in on that. Can't find my 15 yr old fishin hat.
