  1. Along with Franks recomendations, Mcfly Foam eggs in various colors, and streamer wise my top fly has been Senyo craft fur intruders in classic colors (black and chRtreuse, white and chartreuse, black and purple).
  2. Thanks Guys! I 'm totally stoked to go back next year. Unless I do a saltwater trip...
  3. Actually its a Fishpond Nomad mid-length. Big enough for a mid sized Salmon or Steelhead, not too long. Its so light, I have it off a fishpond retractor on my slingpack. Half way through the week (no fish yet), I started feeling silly with this thing hanging off my back ( no one else was doing this). But I was real happy being able to net these guys and reduce the fatigue when they finally decided to play. It considerably cut down my landing time and is well worth the expense. IMHO. Cheers!
  4. Last week on a trip to the Bonaventure, I caught my first Atlantic Salmon in 27 years! Actually, I started fishing for Atlantics at the age of 16, then stopped because it made no sense for a kid my age spending all his summer working money on fishing. I just started back up last year fishing the Bonnie for a week, but came up skunked. Went back this year and Bam! A nice 11 to 12 pounder! And to boot, it was on a size 6 Blue Charm I tied 27 years ago when I was 16! I landed another 10-11 pounder not too long afterwards, making my trip! Beautiful fish that put up a great fight. Was a sweet moment. Sorry, pics aren't great. Was alone and was trying to keep the fish in the water as much as possible. Cheers!
  5. Sweet! I'm sure I would have pulled it away from him! Thanks for sharing!
  6. I have the Atlas and even if bit stiff, its excellent for the price. I don't regret it. If I had big bucks, I'd buy the high end Stonfo. But value wise, I'm very happy with the Atlas. Also, it can handle big hooks as well as tiny ones, which not all vises can do without changing out jaws... its a functional no frills vise!
  7. Thanks guys. They mention tungsten in the description so I wasn't sure.
  8. Gents, are these versileaders flexible? That is when you bend it it bends right back (doesn't stay bent)? Quebec has salmon regulations that proscribe using metalic tips, which they define by this bending behavior. thanks Simon
  9. Each has their own oppinion, but I'm sold on veevus. So strong for a thin diameter.
  10. Love the fly Eide! And nice small head! Good job! Simon
  11. Lots of great stuff here! Colors, black, chartreuse, red, orange, white are the basics for me. I personally like the gandalf fly and delivery man paterns (look them up on youtube). One more thing I'd like to add if he is going after pike or musky in a serious way. Tie attractors in very flashy colors (e.g. chartreuse) as well as realistics colors to imitate the baitfish on the specific bodies of water he is going to target (e.g. perch, tulibee, shad, redhorse, etc...). Sometimes, especially in clearer waters, realism is the name of the game. Sometimes its just visibility! hope this helps!
  12. Thanks I'll try that. I realky have to try and learn as I'd love to contribute more to this great forum. Simon I try to use the daylight if I can and flash, this flies I photographed in natural light by the window and use the flash on the camera.otherwise, I usually use two bulbs from its sides and a top, I think the light is the key to god photos lampa.jpgdunk.jpg
  13. I have a high res point and shoot with macro capability. I 'm sure its fine to do this. The problem is I only tie after the family is asleep, that is 22h00 and later. So lowsy lighting conditions. Plus I try to tie as much as I can during that time, so haven't had any time to play around with lighting, angles, backdrop, etc... I really don't have enough time to do all I would like to (or fish). Any pointers on light sources or potiioning would be most welcome! Cheers! Simon
  14. Very nice Mike! I have to learn to take decent pics of my flies. Right now I wouldn't post any of my pics.
  15. Indeed! Works great fir stringy dubbing such as this and ice dubbing!thanks for the help!
  16. Bingo!!! Ha ha... I'm way too old.. Didn't even think of checking youtube!!! Thanks so much!
  17. Sorry, its a craft fur intruder. The ball of dubbing is to flare the craft fur around it.
  18. Hi guys, just read a mention to center tie in a small bunch of dubbing in a fly recipe. I've never heard of that technique. Can anyone fill me in on this? The objective of the manoever was to form a decent size ball on the shank. Thanks!
  19. I agree! I've been using eye protection and avoiding contact of the light on my hands.
  20. For canadian users, I jyst tried my new Whalesback resin and light(the more powerfull one). It cured in 10 seconds compketely tack free. This was the thick resin. This stuff is cool! I wonder if there are other sources for the resin rather than fly shops?
  21. This is what I use for the but section. I then move on to regular mono or fluorocarbon.
  22. Very nice Frank! It must be fun to fish with a feather wing like that! Although I'd be pulling it away from fish so they didn't damage it...
  23. I've never fly fished for muskies, but with conventional gear the general rule is: dark water hi vis colors(chartreuse, orange, etc...) while for clear water use natural colors, more specifically try to match the forage base in that body of water. Hope this help!
