  1. Family out of town for the weekend so I went out early yesterday before it got too hot. Sunfish wanted nothing but poppers, and the bass were only hitting olive woolybuggers.
  2. Productive time after work, a dozen nice large mouth on a simple popper.
  3. Finally got some time off work to do a little fishing. Caught 11 all about this size on a purple/black wooly bugger, my son caught 10 but his were a little bigger and on spin cast tackle.
  4. Saw this big fellow today, relocating to a bigger pond.
  5. There's a small underground spring that is located just about where I took the picture that now drains down the busted dam. All of the water volume that busted the dam actually came from a cement drainage ditch that runs in from the far end if the pond, upper left in picture. The county claims that no, it does not run off from the neighborhood, but then again these are also the same people who claim that the 6"metal conduit pipe running to a ground transformer that crosses over the creek behind the dam is actually a sewage pipe.
  6. This was in Mechanicsville. Doubtful it will ever get fixed due to the cost involved. County was told about it being a potential wash out over 6months ago, they decided there was no HOA in the subdivision and no one they could bill, so they bascially stated it wasn't their problem. Techinally owned by at least 4 different homeowners, who will never get together on repairs. Just sad, most of the fish are probably in Beaverdam Creek now. Lots of big turtles looking for a home, and I'm sure the smell is going to be pretty bad here shortly.
  7. Here in central Virginia we've been having some major flooding issues over the past week. Kind of a sad day, the end blew out of this great little fishing pond yesterday behind our old house. Pond where I taught my kids to fish, canoe and kyak. Lots of great memories and many, many fish caught.
  8. Trying out a few new things for spring bass. Crawdad, poppers, and giant yellow articulated bugger.
  9. Been thinking about doing it again Bo, it was informative and a good time. Just need to work it into my schedule. Bruce
  10. This is a really good getting started class. My 12 year old son and I took it about a year and a half ago. Learned a lot and Bill from Bass Pro was very helpful and patient with questions
  11. Hey Mike, I'm about an hour west of Richmond if your interested in fishing a nice Bass pond, or if you want to borrow a rod while you're in VA I'm in town just about everyday. Bruce
  12. Up until everything froze over, the bass were hitting everything orange/pumpkin color, so I thought I'd give an orange bugger a try
  13. James River bridge Cartersville VA yesterday. Last time it froze like this was 30 years ago. -4 yesterday, upper 40's today, expecting 60's by the weekend.
  14. Reminds of the first time I took my 10year old fly-fishing and insisted he wear a life jacket. Bucked it all the way, until a couple of hours later when he slipped and had to be fished out of the river. Very happy I made him wear the vest after that.
  15. Planning on going with my son. We went last year and had a good time. Lots of fun things to check out.
  16. Not a lot of fishing here right now, been in the 20's all week. But then again, it is Virginia, could have a couple.of 60dgree days here and there
  17. Nice crawdads PowerShooter. Good use of time with all the snow coming down.
  18. Very nice. I thought I was happy with the rod I had, but not so sure anymore.
  19. If that saw is setup the same as my older model is, you can set it up for 220v or 120v. I'd you have the breaker space available, you may want to have your electrician run a dedicated circuit in 220 for it. It runs better and has more power for cutting through heavier material.
  20. Great saw. I've had one that I've used for building cabinets and furniture for 15 years and have been very happy with it.
  21. Would love to catch one of those big cats on a flyrod. 5lb large mouth is about the biggest thing I've done with a fly rod. Fished all my life, but only been fly fishing for about the last 5 years. It is by far my favorite way to fish.
  22. Was talking to a guy at the boatramp, said they caught a nice 22lb cat there Friday night.
  23. Put in at Cartersville and paddled up river about a mile or so.
  24. Spent a beautiful day on the James River with my son. Fishing was slow, but just sharing one of my favorite childhood places with my son was well worth the effort.
  25. That is a really cool piece of art. The attention to detail is tremendous
