  2. Those japansese nymph legs look very realistic.
  3. I wonder if my grandpa is going, he works for the red cross.
  4. I tested it out last night at the lake and the fish went pretty crazy over it. A few times they hit the fly before it ever had a chance to sink. I cast then it made the rings, then right after a fish got it. Nothing to big(biggest around 12"). My biggest out of this lake so far is about 17.5". They loved it!
  5. Thanks guys, hopefully once I get those materials in the mail(foam most importantly) I will have a better one tied up. Thanks for the tips, I will definitely use them! Hey Graham, I wana be after you in the swap box...lol I did a little different one last night but the legs didn't come out very well. I used some paintbrush bristlet and singed them with a bodkin but they seemed to burn right in half. Then I tried with just a lighter and it got way to short. The case is made up of dirt and rocks that were swept up on the garage floor.
  6. That is a nice looking fly . I may try something like it tomorrow, it will just be without the legs.
  7. That's a cool looking fly!
  8. Yeah I was like "what should I use for a case?". Then I looked over at my juice and saw a straw sticking out of it. LOL! So I grabbed it and went to work. I just bought some stuff off of hatchmasters. tan Japanese nymph legs, porcupine quills, and some 1mm white foam. I think the toughest thing to think of is making the case. Took me a bit to notice my straw. What kind of adhesive do you like to use to stick stuff on a case?
  9. Ok cool, thanks for the info. Just wanted to let everyone know what I used on the above fly. For the case I used a capri-sun straw and burnt it then colored it brown with a marker. The upper body is a brown rubber ribbing material. Forgot what its called. For legs I just used copper wire. Looks kinda funny. I also forgot entennas(sp?)
  10. Ahh what the heck, I'm in! Newbies get first pick where they want to be on the list
  11. I had no idea of what to use in making this little bugger and I don't think I have most of the stuff you guys are using so I made do with what I had. Don't laugh, it's my very first attempt at making any realistic type fly...lol... What would you guys recommend to use for legs. What kinda foam would you recommend? Is there a material list someone could set me up with to try and make one?
  12. Not really sure to be honest. I am not thinking so but we may. With the legs on the front and in some whites and browns it may work as an imitation for a baitfish. Without the legs it would be a killer leech imitation and we have those in the lake. We catch a ton every time we go, on buggers and leeches. I am thinking this fly is going to have some great underwater action. I am moving back to Oregon pretty soon though so I can use them on a wider variety of fish. I'm sure we have them in Oregon.
  13. I don't think they will either. Should work great!
  14. I am planning on using it for some trout at a lake by my house. I am thinking it will be very effective for them. This fly looks like it will have a lot of action underwater. I didn't have any black legs so I substitued with some olive legs. Thanks for the tutorial Jerry!

  16. Ok thanks for the info man, I'll try it out.
  17. Maybe thats my problem, I used 6/0 on the recent flies I tied.
  18. Thanks bentflyrod. The thing that makes me use so much thread at the head is the wings. When I go to cut them off there is still excess sticking out and I wrap thread over it so it doesn't show. Maybe just back up a little bit and not crowd the bead as much? Any advice you could give?
  19. Just wanted to wish you a happy birthday hooligan, metz, and RenegadeScout37
  20. Man a tripod makes a world of difference with the pictures:
