  1. I will keep at it, the patch of elk hair I have looks like the elk hair in the photo. I will post a picture tomorrow, I pull all the fuzz out using a tooth brush then load the elk hair in a stacker tips down then tap on my hand, wife already said (don't even think about using the table). πŸ˜† thank you for your tips and insights.   3. Working with hair is another thing I need to practice on. The stacker I used I a large I believe.
  4. The elk hair I was using was @2inches long and I just couldn't get the natural tips to look even a tiny bit even. I feel I waste so much material. But I understand what you mean. The stacker I used is a large I guess.

  9. Flytire them are some beautiful flys, I haven't even started yet,lol. Sitting here in olancha off 395 heading north to coleville where my tying supplies are waiting for me. Went down the rabbit hole now I'm in the doghouse. Lol

  11. When I first started to ty my own flys I bought a Paar of dr. slick barb removal pliers. I only ever fished with barbs, πŸ˜‚ should done more research. But that's OK, size 16-18 I will buy barbless then. Tightlines
  12. So as a beginner things really get overwhelming on certain items, hooks are 1 of them. So my thoughts are Tmc 100 for short bodied wet flys Daiichi 1560 for soft hackle flys For the following flys 1. California mosquito 2. Soft hackle wet flys 3. Black gnat 4. BH Soft hackle What do you guys think. All thoughts are truly appreciated Tightlines

  15. Hooks and other materials are on order, going down the rabbit hole. πŸ˜‰ I trimmed top and bottom and a little from the out riggers, I think it looks much better?

  18. That video was a great πŸ’‘ Those hooks where labeled size 16 fur ant hooks in the orvis kit I bought, I thought the same thing on the gap. I see I have to buy a hackle measure tool. I just eyeball them. I wasn't sure if I should trim the hackle smaller or not, because I thought the hackle looks to squared off and unnatural. It's all a learn process. Lol you didn't see the first 2 I did. Brown hackle, looked like a alien invasion.🀣
  19. So I challenged myself today. Smallest hook I used yet. I struggled with the dubbing and the hackle I used was the smallest I could find. I'm not sure about these but I did my best. Criticism welcome. Hook size 16 dry fly Black 140 danier thread Black fine dubbing Black neck hackle (tips).
