I know it can be a moot point, but have a look at the wild mice fom your ara. the white footed mouse is quite coomon in many areas-it is a close cousin to the deer mouse so take into account th off white belly when tying. being bass have good sight, it may help in geting their attenton. marc

In BC I was fishing a lake that had ben stocked with blackwater rainbow trout. In BC there are different strains-blackwater are used in lakes that have been stocked illegally with perch. blackwater bows are piscorvius-they feed on fish unlike their southern cousins the kamloops bows which are insect eaters. anyways, the biologist came by the following day after they had beeen stocked and asked us to keep the next one we caught as he wanted to see the stomach contents. these bows were 8 inches and the one we cut open had a 1-2 inch shiner in its belly after only 24hrs. marc

FTF Fly Challenge: Wooly Buggers
flyderaght replied to smalliehunter's topic in Featured Topic Archive
Its nothing special, but the bass here in the Ottawa valley love it. Tail- burnt orange marabou body bronze cactus chenille brass bead chain eyes size 1- 4 hook This will work without the eyes too. I am thinking of another modification to add some legs. crappie and panfish will happily slurp this too in smaller sizes. Marc -

those floats they use for salmon and steelhead on the west coast that are made of foam are perfect popper heads. marc

I picked up a custom build drift rod at a flea market once-30$ casted like a dream. don't think the guy knew he had a rod worth more than that. no markings. one of those nice finds. marc

I would try it on trout in lake. I have no doubt they would snap it up. Personally, I think purple in the water is closer to a true match for insects. not sure why, but put 2 of the same one black, the other purple and you'll see why. marc

Nice-was on a lake in BC when a huge carpenter ant hatch erupted. I saw trout that I didn't believe in that lake even existed. once they fill up on ants, that's it for a day or 2. marc

Very nice indeed-can you come to my bench and do that . I have an old bench that I stripped the surface off of it and sanded it down along with cupboards. have to some more fine tuning though. certainly far more room for me. marc

I agree, support the locals. I've looked online mainly for comparison and with shipping it can be pricier. other than buying a large amount, your local shop is the best. They have rent, wages, insurance and product to buy. I've been hunting to upgrade my tube to a pontoon as getting in and out of it is more complicated now and I want an outcast pontoon boat. interestingly, the prices in western canada and the u.s. are more expensive than here in ottawa. they are closer to idaho than I am. I was quite surprised the markup. I will buy stuff from the craft shops, but the bulk of it is from the shop. marc

Thief!! :headbang: very nice find! daylight makes a good product as good as ott lights and far more reasonable. marc -
do you just tie them down or do you need to slide the hok thru it? marc

Another way to keep an eye on things rather keep mothballs etc is to buy a pheremone trap for moths. you can buy them at a hardware store or a pest control company. basically, it'sa glueboard with a lure that tells the males there is a girl there. of course they stuck. being you remove the male from the equation, no moths to reproduce with. we use them in grocery stores to catch food based pests like the indian meal moth. it also works on clothing moths. the lures last 3 months, but should be replace every 2 months to be effective. you hang the trap no higher than 4-6 ft as the moths don't fly much higher than that. marc

http://www.sallyhansen.com/product.cfm?product=75 rexall drugs had it on sale for 1.00 per bottle. very nice colors as tried them out on the rideau yesterday. no fish but the scenery on the boats were impressive LOL marc

bought some nice colours for some poppers on the pre shaped foam ones. works real well and shows well on the water. holds doll eyes well too. marc

Nice pattern. I remember seeig someone using a live one on a hook with a bobber. the lake was alive around the bobber-not that I'm advocating it. some of the biggest hits I've ever gotten with trout are dragon nymphs. vicious and hard strikes. I usually use a strip strip pause retrieve with the odd quick strip. Marc

fry patterns for rainbow alley babine lake
flyderaght replied to tractorfish's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
try http://fishbcforum.com/ or http://flybc.ca/ . sockeye salmon are the main source, so a sockeye fry pattern is a good bet. what time of year are you going? the fry should be close to being done now. once the salmon return it'll be drifting egg patterns. by the way be prepared for having large furry fishing partners on 4 legs. it's serious grizzly country. http://thirdcoastfly.com/images/salmon%20f...tern%205121.jpg You will have the trip of a lifetime. those bows are bruisers and the scenery is stunning. babine lake is a special place. maybe what should happen is open the season later. here in ontario you can't touch bass until near the end of the june as they are spawning. I've always left spawning fish alone, even when it's legal to take them. marc
