What are the best Dry, Wet , Nymph, and streamers?

Recommended Posts

Do you know the best Patterns to use in every form to catch Trout?

The best dry fly I think is a Royal Coachman, Although I heard that this fly is really an attractor.

The best Nymph I think is a gold beaded hares tail nymph.

Wet fly?

Streamers?

What other flies work well for trout and Have you been able to tie them yourself?

That to me is what I want to get out of fly tying, I want ot able to tie patterns that i will be using and be able to tie on the spot say at the river or on a fly fishing trip.

Please post your best thanks!!

I like the soft hackles like partridge and orange and hare's ear as far as wet flies are concerned. My favorite streamers are the Black Ghost and a variation of the spruce streamer that I tie with Orvis Angel Hair replacing the feather wing. These seem to be the best for me.

For me, for trout:

Dry- Parachute Hare's Ear or foam, rubber-leg beetle

Wet- Hare's Ear Soft-Hackle

Nymph- Pheasant-Tail

Streamer (I fish these 90% of the time)- McCune's Sculpin in Tan/Ginger or Zoo Cougar

Dry Fly: Hair wing Adams

Wet Fly: Soft hackle hares ear

Nymph: Pheasant Tail

Streamer: Black leach.

This question has many different answers (one for each fly fisher,) and you limited our choices to trout patterns.

The best trout flies are the ones that are most like what the fish are used to seeing. If a fly is the right size and colour and behaves like the natural, it will catch fish. That being said, here are my favorites:

DRY: Grey Wulff Parachute

WET: Stewart's Spider (Black or Dun)

NYMPH: Matt's Fur

STREAMER: Silver Zonker

A conventional assortment, but successful when fishing streams and small rivers.
