artimus 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2004 I very fine line here. What would be the dividing line between a hair wing salmon fly and a basic streamer? Art
Sketch 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2004 A fine line - I agree. It is my assumption (and possibly not correct) that a hair wing salmon fly would be a type of streamer or large wet fly that is tied as an attractor, and not tied to imitate any specific baitfish. Correct? Incorrect? Somewhere in the middle? Totally off base? I'm probably going to tie a Frank's Fly. I personally know the originator of this pattern and it's been published in a book and at least one magazine I know of.
Guest Report post Posted May 27, 2004 Nope a Stimulator is not a fly I would classify as a Hair Winged Salmon Fly. Don't get me wrong a Stimulator is fine fly but more in the trout fly category. QUOTE a hair wing salmon fly would be a type of streamer or large wet fly that is tied as an attractor, and not tied to imitate any specific baitfish I agree with this and also I would add that most of the time these flies are tied on heavy salmon style hook's (a regular streamer hook can get crushed very easily by a salmon strike) A quick search of the internet can get you a pattern to tie (most of them very easy to tie) OSD.
