DoubleHaul 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 Ray- the best small hook I've used is the K1A Vince Marinaro Midge Hook made by Partridge. They are made in 22- 28. Here's one place to buy that google turned up: http://thetroutfitter.com/catalog.html
flytyinfreak 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 have your local fly shop order them for you! in this economy it'll give them something o do and they will appreciate the business. I know i am using my local shop more now because of the economy than I normally do ( I usually do a little internet) If not I am sure you can call the fly shop ( www.theflyshop.com ) and get them to hook you up. :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: seriously those guys rock! I know you could probably call any of the online catalogue site like um maybe j stockard and they will get you what you need. in fac here is a link o the hooks you need, well down to size 26 anyways http://www.jsflyfishing.com/cgi-bin/item/H...94840-Hook.html

flytire 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 j stockard would be a good place to start size 32 will be difficult to find since nobody manufactures them any more but maybe some will appear on ebay from time to time your local fly should be able to order you some in sizes that you need if not, all of the major fly fishing catalog and online fly fishing shops should have them
bdesavage 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 While I like to buy local, can't seem to get small hooks around here, they just kind of look at you strangley. JStockhard will order whatever you want, for an additional fee. I get 28 to 32's at marriots. They have a web site and are real good with customer service. Harold Ray 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 Thanks for the information, folks. I just got in and haven't been able to check all of the sources or send PMs, but I did check Feather-Craft.com. I've bought from them quite a lot in the past, and after looking, they do have a larger selection of hooks, many in the smaller sizes, Feather-Craft Tiemco Fly Hooks. I am not a small fly specialist, but I thought it would be fun to try tying a few smaller flies. When I'm on the Brazos River or Lake Waco, which is about 100 feet down the hill from my back door, I see sand bass and others hitting anything from big bugs to tiny, tiny ones that fall on the water or hatch and try to escape. Thanks!! Ray

Thanks!! Ray For Bass try tying tandem small flies on a larger hook, for example a double humpy, the bigger hook will help you land more bass. This works for trout too. When my dad got a little older and his eye sight started to go, I would tie 3 or 4 small bugs tandem on 3xl hooks, so he could see them more easily. Cheers, Futzer. Harold Ray 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 Futzer, Thanks for your help. I had never thought of tying several flies on a single hook. Novel idea. I am 68, so its a little more difficult to see the smaller things now than in the past, but I have great magnifiers I use at the clinic which are perfect when tying flies, too, so I can still do smaller work with few problems. Thanks again!! Ray
