Mr. Vegas 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 I finally was able to get my camera working again. Have any of you had success with a pebble cased caddis or something close. Let me know what you think? Any suggestions to make it better? All I had was this thinner sand but I think it turned out good

Mr. Vegas 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 all I did was wrap a layer of yellow yarn left over from the head and then super glue and sand. this is what it imitates

Mr. Vegas 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 oh I didn't design it but it was fun to tie. Here is a crappy step by step Then from there it is just super glue and rolling it in sand.
bgause1 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 The only thing I can think of would be to go to a local stream and get a bucket of fine sand/gravel from the stream and then let it dry out. Or get some varying colors of sand from lighter to darker colors to match whatever is in the stream you are fishing. But I think it looks great. I had been thinking about doing something similar for a long time.
Mr. Vegas 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 what I was thinking was going to a hobby store and get sand for train setups. I am sure they got several colors just have not had time to do it yet
Jaydub 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 They call the model railroad stuff "ballast". Here in one tied with it. The color of the ballast is really washed out in the photo.
Mr. Vegas 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 that looks really good! My sand I had was really fine. It was sand I am using to finish bricking my back patio. Guess I have to run to the hobby store

JohnP 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2011 Back in the days when I used to kill the occasional trout, I caught a 19-inch rainbow on a gold-ribbed hare's ear, and the fish was absolutely stuffed with cased caddis, rocks and all. So I have no doubt these patterns would catch fish. Nice job!
