I don't know a lot about any of it so any input would help. Here's the pics I think this thick piece of bamboo is a wading stick... Any other ideas? Qballs 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2013 Awesome looking stuff! Besides the reel, is there any names on any of it?
utyer 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2013 I think there are some labels on the rod bags that may help., Tell us what they say if you can. Also look for any markings on the real seat parts, and the bases of the reels. Get a good close up of the markings on that real. Very nice looking stuff. Toirtis 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2013 I can make out "Liverpool" on the one rod sock tag, so one can assume that the rodmaker was there, but I just cannot quite read the word above that.
Peterjay 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2013 Whatever it is, it's beautiful stuff. If it were mine, I'd display it somewhere where I could see it all the time. Just too nice to put away in a closet.
xXFLYFISHXx 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2013 When I get home I will get pictures of every marking they have. They are very hard to read but maybe you guys will recognize them. I can make out "Liverpool" on the one rod sock tag, so one can assume that the rodmaker was there, but I just cannot quite read the word above that. Yeah that's what I read too, Ill have a closer look when I'm home in a half hour or so...

FrequentTyer 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2013 Beautiful stuff! Does the large piece of bamboo open at the end? I've seen some old pieces like that which are a combination walking stick and rod case. The ferrules are distinctive of an early period (I can't remember years well) and should allow a date to be estimated. I would love to see some better shots of the guides and tips. Will look forward to the marking pics. Thanks for sharing! You are lucky to have this and should treat it as a treasure! Mike.

xXFLYFISHXx 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2013 Sorry, that took way longer than I expected. Here's some more details. This post is all on the rod with the red but end... This is all I could find as far as markings
xXFLYFISHXx 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2013 Sorry, this rod sock goes with the red butted rod too... And here is the other rod, I don't think it is near as nice as the red butted one...
xXFLYFISHXx 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2013 Only that red reel has markings on it. I think the black one must have been hand made by someone. I don't really want to take it apart to check the inside for markings. It's to bad that's my favourite one... Here's a couple other pics
Toirtis 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2013 The patch reads "H Moore, Fishing Tackle, Manufactured in Liverpool" from what I can read, although I am having a bit of trouble being sure on the fourth word.
utyer 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2013 Now you can do a Google search on the Gyrex reel. It was also a Milward's product. The Milward's rod and reel were made in England, and you should do some research on both. They could have some collectible value, which you should know if only for insurance.
