SBPatt 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2016 Carnage Cripple Loosely based on Craig Mathews' Guide Cripple (another fly inspired by Bob Quigley's original); just because it's a cripple doesn't mean you can't use foam to make it float. Tied here in Adams colors; change to suit your needs. hook -Dai Riki 135 #12 thread - UTC 140 grey brown core - 8lb mono Shuck - Congo Hair brown abdomen - 1mm foam grey wing - Congo Hair white hackle - grizzly/brown Regards, Scott
FlaFly 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2016 Troutah... I really liked those Balloon Caddises. I looked up a video for how it's tied.... It looks to me just like a mini-hopper, minus the legs. Am I right? Ever use them bluegills?
troutah 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2016 I only know it as a caddis pattern, but can imagine it would make a good small hopper and wouldn't be surprised if there is a similar pattern. I've only ever used them for trout. Bet bluegills would love them though.
FlaFly 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2016 Here's a pic of some mini-hoppers (I didn't tie these). You can see how much they resemble the balloon caddis, except for the legs

Adam Saarinen 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2016 A new idea for the salmon & seatrout run, kind of halfcast saltfly meets freshwater fly #6 Turrell saltwater hook!
flyguy613 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2016 Papa - My suggestions are to trim it further, give the fly a more significant taper (largest at the head, smallest near the tail) also, when you trim it further it will expose the hook more giving you better hook up percentage!
