SpokaneDude 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2018 Tis true that you can't Euro nymph with that rod and such a line, you can nymph with it though. This article may interest you, I used to carry a reel spool loaded with Cobra per Hunmhreys https://troutbitten.com/2016/02/03/the-mono-rig-and-why-fly-line-sucks/ Interesting... thanks for the post... tjm 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2018 Humphreys' "Trout Tactics" was published in 1981 according to my copy, he devotes most of a chapter to casting mono with nymphs and says it's the only way to fish streamers as well. He talks extensively about using tight lines high rods and no indicators. I have not tried it but think Amnesia may work as the line part of the rig. Cobra is no longer made and Amnesia is flat. I'm not sure flat is necessary but it is what Humphreys touted.

"4 out of 5 dentist recommend Brand X over the leading toothpaste!" Well why, then, isn't Brand X the leading toothpaste? Why haven't you ALL spooled up with Amnesia? SilverCreek 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2018 I know a young man who has a reel for salmon spooled up with amnesia. He out fishes us all. Sounds like one of those toothpaste commercials. "4 out of 5 dentist recommend Brand X over the leading toothpaste!" Well why, then, isn't Brand X the leading toothpaste? Why haven't you ALL spooled up with Amnesia? Amnesia is low memory red or yellow monofilament line used for shooting heads. I think it can also be used for center pin fishing which is method of float fishing for steelhead. I think rstaight is just commenting on a successful method that uses Amnesia for a very specific method of fishing. See the references below regarding Amnesia. http://www.pyramidlakeguideservice.com/techniques/ "The first technique for fly fishing from shore with “Shooting Heads”was a lead core shooting head with “Amnesia” monofilament as a shooting line." https://www.fishusa.com/product/Amnesia-Shooting-LineLeader-Material https://www.cabelas.com/product/Sunset-Amnesia-Shooting-Line/710090.uts I think Amnesia can also be used for center pin fishing which is method of float fishing for steelhead. I don't see why centerpinning would not work for salmon as well since they also orient to the bottom of rivers like steelhead when the move upriver to spawn. http://www.woods-n-waternews.com/Articles-i-2008-03-01-174992.112113_5_tips_for_beginning_center_pin_anglers.html I have a spool of amnesia. I now use it for as a butt section on leaders that I use for high stick nymphing. Remember when everyone used to high stick rather than use strike indicators or Euronymph? It was the way we contact nymphed without strike indicators. The butt section of red Amnesia acted just like the the fluorescent sighter material that is now used for euronymphing. Note that the spools say that it is for shooting line.
Flicted 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2018 Veering off topic. But I use a short piece of the red amnesia to connect leader to fly line. It's more flexible than the leader butt for tying knots and it can save your butt section when re-tying leaders. Also, the 6" section between leader and line can act as a strike indicator.
