Guest Report post Posted May 8, 2020 Years ago when the wife had her managery I managed a few Domineckers (Grizzly) for the big brown eggs. Had a peacock that ran the neighborhood but got run over. I got his skin. Outa the business now. But am watching DD ‘s Wyandottes. They are badger in reverse. Always foraging feathers/fur living out in the country. Feathered streamers need to be tied so the wings don’t fowl in the hook. Matuka style with ribbing holding them down and the ends behind the hook bend is a good way to do that... A note here to the young tiers. It appears youse guys are using huge thread. Not sure exactly what size it is but a lot smaller tying thread would greatly help the heads of your flies. Leaving more room at the eye for the finish too. We here to help.👍 Beautiful hackle, Beautiful ties! Been playing with a lot of badger hackle that's been dyed lately. TSMcDougald 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2020 I am working on winged flies. It is still a work in progress. I bought some mallard wings about a week and a half ago specifically so I could master the technique.
Guest Report post Posted May 9, 2020 Got this furnace badger lil saddle from vicrider, Xmas. Haven’t used it much. TSMcD had this wing cutter but can’t find it... Pic is from ole Herters catalog. Not sure where to get ahold of one today. It had 2 size combs and was aluminum. Back in my beginnings,60’s, bout all wets had wings, then there came nymphs.😳 my most favorite ParmachenBell. LeadWingCoachman, WickhamsFancy, BlackGnat, McGinty were others. Nice to see again. https://www.google.com/search?q=parmachene belle

You got it, once you have the “feel” right on the first three wraps it is really fun to kick these out. The more you do the easier it will be to set slip a bit more towards the hook eye, resulting in a bit smaller head. I struggle with the other end of the wings, tending to overshoot the hook bend, you nailed that.👍👍🎣🎣😎😎

Nice ties there, denduke. How often do get a neck like that from you daughter's roosters? That's really great.
