KrakenFly 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2021 Here is a project I have been working on for a couple of months: a realistic Eastern Cicada Killer Wasp (Sphecius speciosus). This fly is my entry for the 2021 J. Stockard Tying Contest. The extended abdomen/stinger is a reshaped Firehole 718 size 8, with the main backbone of the fly being an antique blind-eye Mustad 7871. Every part of this fly (with the exception of the eyes) was tied in with thread, there is no lazy resin and glue work holding this together; this fly was truly TIED! I have included some pictures throughout the process, as well as the final result! Needless to say, this one will never see the water 😉 As always, any feedback is much appreciated! Yes I made the wings! They are made from two sheets of Raffene sandwiched with hackle quill and moose mane between them set into the realistic vein pattern with varnish. Poopdeck 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2021 I would run from that. That is a very very realistic cicada killer. The only thing missing is the cicada. Great job!!
