  1. I have just started using rabbit strips for stripers/hybrids. I have used smaller ones for river smallies. Mainly olive and/or chartruese for the bass. I've only tried white and chartrues for the stripers to no use. Just got some pink rabbit strips to tie but haven't yet. Be preparing for a bass/panfish trip tomorrow. Will try them maybe Friday, we'll see what the weather does. Go catch a fish, Gary
  2. Try flytyersdungeon.com he has some great materials for great prices. He has your fine rubber legs. Alot cheaper and great products. No affiliation just a very happy customer.. Go catch a fish, Gary
  3. Nice fly. Thanks for sharing, heading to the vise to tie some up for striper tomorrow. Gary
  4. Thanks for sharing. Great pictures and flies. Especially the deer hair bugs. Nice work. Gary
  5. I like to fish clousers, decievers and buggers. White with flash seems to be the key. But I seem to catch more fish if there is some pink involved. I am waiting for the streams to come down before trying the stripe run this year. I have fished the lake this year and have caught around 20 striper and hybrid in a few trips. White and pink deciever being the most reliable so far. Been playing around with some rabbit strip patterns... fished them today but no joy...went back to the deciever bam, 13 pound striper. That was right before the wind blew me and the boat off the lake. Good luck with the stripe, hope you wear them out. go catch a fish, Gary
  6. I tie flys because I like to. But, I just don't go and buy materials because they are cool or neat looking. I am very Frugal. Almost everything I have purchased has been a great deal. I shop at the fly shops discount boxes and shop online. I do have several lifetime supplies of some things like deer hair, bucktails and the such. The price I paid for them was a great deal. I fish for a trout, crappie, bass, striper, hybrid bass, sand bass, white bass, bluegills, warmouths, drum and carp mainly. I do believe if you shop around you can save a great deal of money tying your own flies. I fished a local lake today for bass and lost nine clouser minnows. My cost; 100 pack of hooks 4.19, bucktails free, dumbell eyes 100pack 20.00, crystal flash 1.00, thread 1.59. With that I can tie a hundred clousers. The est price of a clouser is $2.50, so for a hundred clousers it would cost around $250.00. I can tie a hundred clousers for $26.78. I know that doesn't include the vise and tools but even if it did my renzetti traveler only cost me $150.00 and a pair of anvil sissors $8.00 and a bobbin $20.00. For a total of $178.00. That still puts me at $204.78 which still saves me money. Just imagine how much you can save on easier patterns like midges and soft hackles. The fly box bag I carry in the boat has several fly boxes and plano boxes full of flies. My buddy asked me how many flies I had in the boat, so my kids and I counted; 563 warm water flies and I need to spend some time at the bench. That's not even counting my trout fly boxes or my warm water wading stuff. It can be done if you shop around. Shop around, Gary
  7. Fly tyer's dungeon is the place to buy at least one of everything he's got. Talk about great prices for quality materials. Also, he doesn't rake you over the coals for shipping. Just my 2cents. Gary
  8. I too was a wally world today and I bought a bunch of the rattles. Going to use them for some bass patterns. Can't beat the price. Go catch a fish, Gary
  9. I mainly warmwater flyfish from a boat. In my humble opinion a 7wt is the way to go. You will need to power of a 7wt to help drag that bass out of the grass, wood or whatever. Yes, you can catch bass all day on a 5wt. But, when you get into the better sized bass you'll be glad to have the 7wt in your hand. Go catch a fish, Gary
  10. You can't beat the dugeon's prices. The materials are great! Been buying from the Mad Scientist for years and will continue too. I'm buying life time supplies for my kids too. Go catch a fish, Gary
