  1. Fantastic lookings roods, really a work of art! Now, someone buy them so he can finish the fish tank
  2. Fantastic fly collection you got there planettrout!
  3. When it comes to salmon fishing I believe presentation is everything! If you know the river very well I believe you can catch fish on almost any fly! Of course it does matter whether you use a big tube or a small #14, but I don't think it matters much what kind of a tube fly you use if you present it right to the salmon. But hey, it wouldn't be any fun if we knew the big secret

    Fish Pictures

Those were my best fish of 2011, more photos can be found in this thread: http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=60615&st=0
  7. Great report and very nice looking fish! Lucky you, I can't go fishing until june and it's killing me!
  8. Not the biggest fish in the world but sure better than my day! Would love to be able to spend some time fishing right now!
  9. I understand completely waht you older guys are saying, just don't write off the yonger guys completely I sure hope so, because after fishing my river for about 15 years I know exactly where the fish is but sometimes I have no idea how to get it and just stand there with my rod looking like an idiot! But that's the fun of fishing, learning how to deal with every situation and condition will probably take another 15 years! P.s. You said doctor so I said doctor, Ph.D in fly fishing doesn't sound too bad
  10. Looks great, I can see this catching some sea trout!
  11. How old was that doctor when he started guiding 30 years ago? Somehow those experienced guides had to start off their guiding carrier But I see that guiding in america is quite different from what it is over here so I'm not gonna comment anymore on something I dont know anything about. But I do know some older and much more experienced fishermen that most of the time catch less fish and smaller fish than me because they are stuck in the same old routine and don't want to try anything new. I also know older and much more experienced fishermen that most of the time catch more fish than me. There are two sides to every story No problem! I've got my river all by myself the whole summer every summer(and access to many lakes and a few rivers)!
  12. The photo in my signiature is one of the most beautiful fish I've ever seen and it's hopefully still alive in my river It probably would've tasted great but lets not go off topic
  13. Try everything, cast downstream, across, upstream, slow retrive, fast retrieve, let it sink, let is skip across the surface, don't retrieve but let the current swing the streamer in front of the fish....I've gotten fish using all of those methods, you've just got to figure out what works for that individual fish! But the most conventional method is casting across(downstream) and then retrieve in few pulls to imitade a injured bait fish! But the most fun is to fast retrieve along the surface and watch the fish come splashing and attacking the fly!
  14. I'm 21 and I've been fishing my family's rivers since I was six years old and I think I'd do a pretty good job if you asked me to guide in that river! Young age doesen't necessarily equal something bad! But I totally see your point.
  15. I'm using a rod for line 5/6 but I desperately want a rod for line 3, would be awesome catching those browns on a lightweight rod. But I promised you guys an update on how the tagging would go and in total I got 6 recaptures(I tagged 44 brownies og all shapes and sizes in total). There are two types of brownies in the river! One type just stays in the river it's entire life, but the other runs up the river each summer from a lake the river flows into. "Days from tagging"-------"Distance from tagging place"----------"Notes" ---------16--------------------------------------------0 ---------35--------------------------------------------0 ---------50--------------------------------------------0 ---------------- Killed by bait fisherman ---------14------------------------------------------3,8 km --------------- Fish from the lake ---------10--------------------------------------------0 ----------5------------------------------------------3,6 km --------------- Fish from the lake The two fish that were recaptured far from the tagging place have had to jump up this waterfall(note, very much water in this picture, way more then normal water levels): And the one who was caught again 5 days later was only 33 cm(13")! These fish are incredible! None of the fish had changed in length but some had gotten fatter and had more spawning colours. I will continue to tag fish over the next few years and I should get some interesting results And if anyone missed it here is a video of my summer, the fishing part is 5:40 - 12:45. Hope you enjoy! SUMMER VIDEO Thanks for the nice response!
  16. Sorry for the late response. It basically depends on the weather and water levels, if it's a hot summer it can go upp to 10-15°C, but this summer it was problably just below 10°C. But Summer is now over and I'm back in school so this will be my last report. August was a really good fishing month and this brown trout was the best of the rest! It came splashing to the surface to take a streamer and it was a great fight, I had to follow it up the rapids and at one point I was afraid I had snagged the line in rock but it was just the fish staying still were the current was most powerful! The pool is a really beautiful one, it has probably never ever been fished before I came! And finally here is a video of my summer that I made for my family. You may not understand it but the pictures speak for them selfs! And if you dont want to look at the whole video(it's pretty long) the fishing part is 5:40 - 12:45, but I think you will enjoy it! EPIC SUMMER VIDEO! (the video quality may not be 100%, I had to decrease it to be able to upload it to the internet) Thanks for me and I hope you had just as great summer!
  17. I take the barbs on big hooks but on the small flies I just leave the barbs on. But after writing my post earlier today I went fishing and I got some big ones!
  18. Hi guys, fishing is still going strong. And there is nothing more beautiful than spending a beautiful summer night by the river. My friend spent the weekend with me and of course I took him fishing. With me being such a great guide he of course hooked a beautiful brown trout that was tagged and then released! And you can just give out the prize for the most beautiful fish of the summer, there is no way you will ever see a more beautiful fish than this arctic char!
  19. The river is warming up a bit and the conditions are getting better. And the river is still producing some beautiful brown trouts! That's it for now, Laxi
  20. Hmm, these flies have been lying around in my box for about two years now. It's been so long since I tied them I can't remeber any details. The only extra information I can give you other than looking at the pictures is that both flies have strips of led underneath the material to make them heavier. Other than that it's a pretty simple tie and you just follow the photos. Oh, and the yellow caddis imitation was tied on some funny looking sedge hook. Sorry if that doesn't help much.
  21. This one also took the beaded nymph! I think I've got myself a new favourite fly!
  22. The trout just get bigger and bigger! Got this beauty about an hour ago on the beaded nymph in my previous post.
