I oiled my Renzetti Master Vise with a spray greese which fish love to bite.

The Renzitte Master is the best vise for me. so stable n smooth. I also own the Griffin Spider vise which is my travel vise, it claim a max hook size of 4/0 but upon testing the vise can clamp hook size 8/0. I also own the Griffin Montana Mongoose Vise but never use it. it is good but every time I will be using the Renzitte Master.

you are sticking to what color? white or chartreuse?

sorry to tell you that China reels are junk. I bought a few and sold it off. the cheapest reel I would buy is Ajiking brand.

The Griffin odyssey spider have many version. some with lever and some with screw clamp which I think it is old version. some with more brass parts which cost more and other with a nice bobbin cradle. take you pick.

oh dear, you know why I hate "O" ring. when I took out my Renzetti traveller to tie fly, the "O" is faulty. it happen so many time. sometimes the shop have no stock, so you understand my frustration. it depend on your climate. here is summer every day. I sold my Renzetti traveller and I now avoid "O" ring at the clamp.

Just tested, it can clamp size 8/0 hook. I think size 9/0 hook also can clamp but I can't find 9/0 hook.

Griffin use "O" ring at the rotation friction part. to control or jam the rotation. to me this are good average vise. I bought a china vise, it have so many problem and the jaw broke. hi, I am Jamal GT from Singapore. the only fresh water fishing spot we have are resevoir. The only fish take fly and bait are peacock bass and toman. No other. there are legal ground to fish. other area we will be fined. using life bait? get fined also. So I usually head for saltwater, no more playing with fly rod because I was hit by stroke and my left hand can't be lifted. I am left handed. So I used spinning set to cast a fly. Now I usually play bait fish on a jetty and use it to catch big fish. In 2003 I was a champ catching 5-6 big fishes in 2 hours. But now the fish getting smarter, They pull the line and if they sense any tension they let it go. So I never get any fish now. last 3 years I always hire a boat in malaysia to fish. But now I can't stand on a boat due to my stroke. formerly my job is electronic technician. now I can't walk much so I left my job. my other interest is photography, I submitted to National Geographic but they want a vertical picture to put on their front page. So enjoy fishing...................cheers.

hi, I just bought a Griffin Odyssey Spider Fly Tying Vise. there so many version of this vise. it is using cam lock jaws unlike the older version which use screw to clamp. this is my travel spare vise, my main vise is Renzetti Master to add cost it is limited edition black, add cost again with saltwater pedestal. I love the Griffin Odyssey Spider cam lock jaw. it seem that it can hold larger that 4/0 hook as advertise. unlike Renzetti lower model it is using spring on the jaw, Where Renzetti and others is using rubber "O" ring which wear in a year. it is recommended for it is price at US$102. there is another with brass nut and a nice bobbin cradle for additional US$35.

DanVise ? I don't like the look,especially the clamp.it look big and cheap plastic.sorry guys, that is IMHO

Anvil Atlas? it take a cow strength to clamp a hook. I sold it off. the guy who bought it is trying to get rid of it.

I order a Griffin odyssey Spider as my travel vise. seem that there are so many version of the Griffin odyssey Spider. some with cam lock, some with screw lock, some with nice bobbin cradle, some with simple bobbin cradle, some with more brass part ant other with simple black part.etc I like the Griffin because it is using spring on the jaw cam, unlike Renzetti which are using old technology. Renzetti is still using rubber "O" ring. which break after a year.

hi, to get the best flies pattern. go around the internet and look at the commercially selling flies. This are working flies pattern. I also look at ebay and choose the most common fly pattern. COPY them and it work....................cheers

I bought a Renzetti Apprentice FAKE. yes fake, the reason is it look better than the Renzetti . the price is US$48 including shipping. It can't clamp smaller hook lower than 10 but advertise 22. So I play with it, I remove a washer which limit the jaw movement. guess what? the jaw broke upon clamping. So I hurry to my fly shop and replace the jaw with original Renzetti Apprentice jaw which cost US$37. Now it work more beautifully. one reason about Renzetti, they anodized their vise which turn like shit after few year. secondly they use rubber "O" ring for their jaw clamp which detorite over time. if you see the fake in ebay, ignore it. the fake

In fact I just tie some flies on it. right most is size 6/0 the other 2, I don't know the size number, it is not written on the package. this picture were taken on my room door, yes it is paste there, decoration?

That is why I get the Renzetti Master, no need to replace "O" ring. But the price. I just bought another vise. it cost US$1.50 only. It is for hook larger than 10/0. off cos I can't rotate it. Note that the "LOON" is longer than the vise. Hence it is a very small with a jaw wide 1 1/2 inches.
