  1. If you're looking for flies, the guy that runs this site is a member here and is one heck of a stand up fella, lots of good big nasty pikey/musky stuff to drool over and lots of good info. It's an Scotch run site so some of the materials are not available here in the states but there are perfect subs available here in the states so check it out. Mc Fluffchuckers Pike and Predator Flies
  2. since I have own both I would say Peak... although the three Renzettis I have own have been great I would still prefer the Peak. Steve
  3. Also don't forget to look in the SBS sub-forum on here, I posted 4 or 5 there just a week or so ago and there are tons more videos and photo sbs topics there. Steve
  4. I'm with Utyer... to be totally honest my thought is that although we have been fishing for hundreds or rather thousands of years the fish have yet to become any smarter than they were when we started stabbing them with sharp sticks.... WE got smarter and thus believe we need to make the thing we use to catch fish with more life like or realistic. In all honesty it's much easier than that, if these patterns were so freaking great and you had to make a fly look so much like the real thing then why the heck do things like a H.E.N. or P.T. work so well, why does an adams beat so many other dry flies hands down, why would a fish eat something like a woolly worm???? Because they aren't all that intelligent............. Steve
  5. It gets that way in a hurry... wait till you've been here for 4-5yrs..... or longer!!! I think Will should be able to claim some us as dependents on his taxes!! Welcome aboard Ian and don't forget to check out the warmwater board as well, we always need a little new blood up there as much as we need it here. Steve
  6. Ray I am so stoked that you saw this, I have had that pattern bookmarked from the day I first saw it and have been using it off and on for some time but was always changing one little thing, material or whatever I decided would make it better for me. Thanks for adding ito the database in the first place man. Steve
  7. I'd give her a big sloppy wet kiss...... she looks beautiful to me. Shoot she's already all puckered up for me!!! Steve
  8. I found this one last year not long after he had uploaded it and loved it, been building leaders just like that ever since, to solve the tangling issue I have a little jig that I put over the railing on my deck (just a couple 1x2 pieces) then drop the line one piece on either side of it and they don't wrap around each other. and the railing on my deck is about 20ft off of the ground so it just dangles as I twist. Here is the video (or at least the one I learned from). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbcVaEe3RIs
  9. Sure as shootin' told you that's the only fly I need for gar!!! Steve
  10. I have been killing myself not to push fly fishing onto my son and rather to just allow him to come to the sport when he's ready, well in the last month or so he has really taken an interest and so I have been working on his cast with him and waiting for some cooler weather to get out in. Thursday night we took some hoppers to a local lake for an hour or so and he caught his first fish that he made the cast to and hook by himself on a fly rod. Then last night I went and gigged some frogs with a friend of mine and I found a smoking hot gar spot so I decided I would take Kenny there this morning, so he caught his first three gar on a fly rod and he is in love with trash!!! After the third I could tell he was beginning to get a little tired and even though he said he really wanted to stay I said we needed to gt home to do some chores (blamed it on mom!!!) but we had a ball and I am so glad to finally have a seriously interested fishing buddy. Hope you all enjoy. Steve

    Foam

I originally had issues with that but found that I simply needed to tighten the blade hinge pin, if it gets the tiniest bit loose it will make your cut uneven or not even cut at all. Also if you put a little pressure towards the board it will be a bit cleaner as well. Steve

I have one of those big paper cutters that the teachers in school used to use, you know the guillotine kinda big blade thingy. I use that and can get a good precise but more important consistent cut every time, been using the same one for about 4yrs now and have no need to sharpen yet, gave 3 bucks for it a garage sale. 13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGSQfGQ2m7U&feature=BFa&list=ULhQRZOARE0CM&index=5 This is one of only a coupe of patterns I will ever claim as originally tied by myself but to be honest it's just a cross breed between about 6 different pattern that I liked and then I forced it to fish the way I want it to. Steve
  14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifRAZtLDOEo&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL Here is my version of the panfish charlie and the way I prefer to tie it, this is not the end all be all there are a million combinations and variations this is just my take. Steve
  15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYW9PQnyj_s Here is a pattern I picked up her some time back and have just been playing with and have finally come across the modification I like best, really easy and I think it looks stellar. Thank you Letumgo for the original idea for this if you are still running around here. Steve
  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXrup9XCIBQ I love this fly for it's fancy look but absolute ease and speed of tying once you have the concept down. Steve
  17. It's all gravy now and no issues, so whatever. Steve
  18. I can tell you the one thing I like about it the most is that the colors seem to be a bit brighter on the watersilk, and the finer texture for me is awesome. After you get some tied up make sure and post some pics. Steve
  19. I love water silk and have used it for clousers before it is a much more limp than congo hair or ep fiber, it will hook foul much easier than the rest of those materials so be careful of that. Steve
  20. Ok so I logged on tonight and the board looks crazy, is it just me or is it everyone??? Here is what it looks like when I click on a topic. Help me out here I'm stupid when it comes to stuff like this. Steve
  21. Trout for the most part is about the only fish I use eggs for, I know I'm known as a die hard warm water guy around here but when the water get's too hard I go south and fish for trout. My personal best trout was a 28" bow with a 26" girth caught on a 1/125th ounce jig head glow ball (clown color) I pulled him from a really fast riffle dead drifting. I've also caught a ton of browns and other bows on eggs. I use a rig for polish/czech nymphing I call it polock nymphing with 2 glo balls a 1/100 oz. under a 1/125 oz and when the fish get in a feeding mood it is deadly I have had fish move 3ft in fast water to chase down and eat a fly on this rig, I also occasionally will use nymph over the lower glo ball if they don't want to hit the egg but they move after it, I'll catch them on the nymph because they move to look at the egg then hit the nymph...... there are a million ways to fish an egg just try it one way then another then another, you'll find a way that works for you. Steve
  22. I've caught tons of wild and hatchery fish alike on glo balls and eggs, there is an art to fishing them properly though, they either tend to prefer them bouncing off of the bottom or they want them on the fall. Fishing eggs and glo balls has actually helped me improve my nymphing techniques as well. I fish them often without an indicator just dead drifting. By far one of my best big fish and number of fish producing patterns. Steve
  23. But it would be awesome!!!!! Nice popper Cream, love the color combo. Steve
  24. So sweet man, thanks so much for the SBS... high quality. Steve
