Fly Tying

can I use any of this camping 'cord' for tying?

Sorry if this is already covered / in the wrong spot. I was digging through my garage and came across some rope like material and wondered if it has any use in tying?

Only one way to find out

keep unbraiding the middle pieces and tie some flies with the fibers. If it’s cotton probably not

I have tied with those things. It hasn't worked out for me. Brightly colored 275 and 110 cord work better.

Like these, maybe.

If the middle two are similar in composition (polypropylene) to macrame cord, you can brush it out and use it like EP fibers or Congo hair: https://youtu.be/IP2-jM5ZwPs.  This guy makes it look harder that it really is, IMO.

The top and the bottom don't look very promising. The bottom maybe for some kind of translucent ribbing.
