Insect photos for imitations

Nice photos Will.

Here's a few of several hundred photos I took a couple of days ago while fly fishing the Kern River in the Souther Sierra.

Next March, the stones will be hatching, and I'll be there........

I brought home a couple dozen vials with bugs preserved in bug balm fluid.

And the fishing was great as well!!!

Here are a few interesting insects I photographed while fishing last weekend. Perhaps they will be of use to the realistic tyers out there:

This dragonfly had really cool looking (camo) color scheme and a flat diamond shaped cross section (four sided square with the point up and down /side to side. As I took its photo I could watch its sides move in and out as it breathed.

After doing some searching on line, I believe this is a Common Whitetail (Libellula lydia).

I "rescued" this little guy as he floated by. He was trapped in the surface film and was struggling to straighten his wings. I pulled him/her (?) out of the water and let him dry out on a rock while I took his photo. His body was roughly 2" long and very fine (roughly 1/16th inch) diameter.
