spinner 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2008 I was wondering what was the best way to take pictures of flies? I've tried but they just turned out kinda fuzzy.

mtbbrian 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2008 I am not much for photographing my flies, but I know a thing or two about photography. Why don't you tell us more about how you are photographing your flies first off. What camera are you using, what lights, if any you are using, etc.. An example of your photographs would be helpful too. Welcome to FTF! Brian
Houndog 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2008 Light is very importants, in order for the camera to focus and exposure. Your camera should have a macro feature (flower symbol), using that will allow the camera to focus when the camera is close to the subject.

The Goat 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 Here's the fly photo studio that I made. It's just a plastic trash can with the side cut out, and a slot cut in the top to slide different color backgrounds in. These pictures are from when I used the vise to hold the flies. Now I just stick something to hold the flies right through the middle of the light refloctor. The reflector is just a piece of cardboard covered with white paper and some stiff wire that can be bent to raise/lower it to whatever height you want. Add a big, bright natural light type light, and you're golden. Not counting the light, the whole rig cost maybe $7.
