Very nice looking fly hairwing!

What a coincidence, today I tied the only "wet fly" pattern that I fish with as well.

Western coachman.

What are you using for a wing on this one?

The straight ones are bucktail, and the curly ones are calf tail.

Sawyer's Killer Bug

I'm sure this fly would catch fish but I have some originals & they are more tapered (carrot-shaped).

Hard to find the yarn specified by Sawyer; long discontinued & cards sell for $$$ in the UK!

i bought the yarn in this vid from Blazing Needles in Utah so my kids can tie up this crane fly larvae. Its a very close sub for the original yarn used in the killer bug.

This has been the fly of the season so far. Its accounted for about 30% of the fish for two of us.

Then a variation on a classic dry fly, The Double Badger. Red tag and head. Just an experiment, might prove effective.

Hey Jam....that must have been a trip. Tyin' on a down eye hook. Did you have to flip the hook upside down in the jaws to re-learn from the up-eyes LOL?wink.png
Nice job.

I've been experimenting with different body materials lately. Here's a pheasant tail inspired nymph with gills on the sides of the segmented body.
