Chefben4 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2014 Finally sat down at the vise over the weekend. Its been a few weeks. Just too nice out and too many projects going on. In any case here is a bunch of carp flies.. all patterns I found online. I forget most of the names but they all looked pretty good. I changed some things based on material I had. Going to be fishing the flats in Traverse bay in a couple weeks so I am gearing up.

tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2014 Those look great! On a saltwater hook, I would bet every one of them would be a great Bonefish or Redfish fly! Kirk, what do you think?
Kirk Dietrich 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2014 I was thinking the same thing Tide although the sculpin headed ones might make to muck kerplunk for skittish bonefish in clear shallow water but I'm sure for deeper water bones they would work.
tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2014 The fish skull flies remind me of bonefish jigs. You may be correct about the splash, but agree they might be good for deeper water!
Chefben4 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2014 I absolutely love sculpin helmets. Dont even know why..but I just think they are effective and cool!
ditz2 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2014 Hey Ben....I am sorry I missed the Traverse Bay statement. ...Always listen to the guide. hehehe.....Look up Joe Montana on carp. I think you will find that he fishes there also and I think he used some kind of fly that simulates gobies. One of the carps major food sources up there. If the weather is good you should have a great trip. How about a trip report? Have fun

wvflyfishing 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2014 Good looking flies. I need to tie some this winter. I am looking forward to catching some when the weather warms.
dayhut 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2014 I reckon a big, furry Briminator should do the trick for carp. Size 6-8. Olive and orange brown seem to be the favored colors.
