Peak Jurassic Series Large Iron Retention System

Recommended Posts

First thought: Looks like a kludge assembled from parts off an office chair

Second thought: Might be the specialized vise some are after for making big jigs and bucktails

Overall: I don't see this as being a hit among fly tyers; but, nonetheless, kudos to Peak for bringing a new product to market.

I saw those on their website. Hopefully someone will chime in and give us some insight!!!

If that knob and screw tightens a j-hook, then I could see where this will hold very large hooks. I could see the jig tiers liking this.

If you look at them on their website, you will see how they hold the hook. They also tell you they are for the largest hooks you can find. So yes it is a specialty vise for tying the largest of flies.

specialty product for sure. i would have no use for it or the vise

For a "fly" ... the largest hook would be determined by what can be thrown. But for any other lure type, you could tie with nylon rope if you wanted to. If your casting it with conventional gear, there'd be fewer limits.

Again, I say, this vise would be more for jig tiers than for fly tiers.

From their website:

With the growing popularity of large fresh and
saltwater predator flies, sharks, offshore flies and jigs
for halibut, grouper, lake trout and other species -
PEAK Fishing has received many requests for a vise
that would hold the largest hooks on the market.

PEAK’s engineering team has tackled the problem and
come up with a unique and innovative new solution
for securing oversize hooks and resisting the e
xtreme
pulling force exerted on long shank hooks when using
high tensile strength tying threads.

The solution is PEAK’s Large Iron Retention System
(LIRS) incorporated in t
he introductory product of our
new line
, the Jurassic Series. While the application of
this technology is new, these products are built large
and tough like the dinosaurs that ruled the Jurassic
Period. Our one-of-a-kind drawbar retainer in the
Magnum product has a .200 wide slot to hold far
larger hooks than any other device we know to be
available for tiers.

As with all PEAK Fishing products, we thought
through the details of the Jurassic Series to develop a
set of products to provide a durable, economical and
functional series of tools to address your most extreme
fly or jig tying needs!

*Lifetime warranty against defects in material or
workmanship*

Good idea IMO. There does appear to be more & more folks tying bigger flies. Anyone find a retail price for this?

I agree with Mike too, that it would make a great vise for tying big jigs.
