fshng84 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2016 Practiced with the Switch Rod yesterday. Had three strikes but did not land them. Went again today and was able to get get two Bass that went for a Pink Near Deere. Still learning the Switch Cast but really liking the capability to cast one-handed for distance with minimal effort compared to our other fly rods. Fun stuff and a great start to the weekend! Today's Video. Looks like the Pink Near Deere works for Bass, too!
fshng84 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2016 Made it to one pond on Saturday and to another pond on Sunday. Of the three suggested flies, put two of them on a Tandem Rig - Near Deere and GRHEN. Both ponds fish were going for the GRHEN over the Near Deere. But, when the GHREN was fished as a single, did not get any strikes. The Near Deere seemed to be the key to getting the GRHEN to the right depth! Saturday's Video and Sunday's Video.
fshng84 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2016 Near Deere keeps working... on Bass, too! Similar to the "swing the rod slowly retrieve" that worked on the trout this weekend, it worked on the Bass as well! Fun stuff! Today's Video.
fshng84 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2016 Ran low on material and made do with the material on hand. Made a Pink/White Near Deere and one we are calling the Mardi Gras Near Deere as it is made with purple and green material, or maybe it will attract fish like Mardi Gras attracts party goers! Post. fshng84 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2016 What is a near deere fly? I never heard of them. Here is some info: - FlyTyingBug - - Used the Near Deere in different colors yesterday. Bite was good with a limit being taken in short order, and then switched to catch and release fishing while trying different fishing flies. Sunday's Video. fshng84 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2016 More Near Deere and some Green Weenies and a Red variant... hope to try them out tomorrow! Picture. Near Deere worked yesterday; no luck with the others. Key for the Near Deere was the retrieve - 10 count to sink the fishing fly, long pull on the fly line every 2-4 seconds. Video.
