Eide,

As always, I'm still envious of your tying ability. even if I had another 40 years of learning, I suspect I might be able to tie closer to your talents.

I do have a question though... I noticed your bodies are either varnished or uv resin. Have you found that this increases the weight of the fly too much? Do you find that the fly still rides high on the water?

Michael

Beautiful - well done. Since I own both the Limited Edition and the trade version of The Dettes plus a couple dozen flies from the shop I can really appreciate these on a couple different levels,

thanks for sharing.

I had to look up the Peccary ... fantastic, the way the coloration plays out in the wraps around the hook shank.

One more question for you, eide. Do you soak the peccary hair in water before wrapping the body?

The layer of UV is very thin, haven't noticed anything different

Thanks! Have been digging into the history of catskill this winter, but haven't got a copy of that book yet (soon).

Yes, it makes for a great body!

For these I didn't, depends on the what you get your hands on. If they are too stiff I'll soak them first.

It is common around here for guys coyote hunting or deer hunting to pop any hog that wanders around since they are so destructive and breed like pigs...oh wait...they are. Anyway, one friend of mine has dropped a couple this year and nobody ever eats them around here, though they say the young are edible. Do you or anyone know what parts of the boar or sow are usable and give that mottled color. I have tied some nice flies with a light and dark moose mane hairs wrapped side by side but I'd love to try the look of your peccary.

Vic - wild hogs and peccaries (or javelina) aren't the same animal. Pecarries actually aren't very closely related to hogs so the animals your friends are killing won't have that type of hair.
