fishinguy 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2016 Any hair can by dyed but if it's really dark you may not notice any of the color you tried dyeing it. Non-Arctic fox dyed tails and a bunch more http://www.furtail.com/ Thanks. Bookmarked. Good prices there. Have you ordered from them before?
Piker20 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2016 I have european red fox and it is coarser than arctic fox but less coarse than stoat and pine martin. Definately handy to have in the inventory.

feathers5 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2016 Is it possible to buy whole dyed artic fox tails?
Bimini15 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2016 Here is one place according to Google http://www.barlowstackle.com/Arctic-Fox-Tails-Dyed--P1174C157.aspx
Guest Report post Posted October 9, 2016 Check here at Waters West - they list up to 1/2 tails but You could call and check with them, and yes I've ordered from them. http://waterswest.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=28_282_30&products_id=1 Lure parts online - they don't have a lot of colors though. and yes I've ordered from them before http://www.lurepartsonline.com/Online-Store/TailsFlyTyingLPO/Dyed-Arctic-Fox-Tails.html You could also order plain white ones and dye them yourself. Too many places now are cutting pieces (called circles) of the tails and charging big money

It's just half the price of artic fox tail. If it has the same movement it might be an option. Just wondering. Thanks
Piker20 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2016 Goat is much finer and straighter than fox. It wont hold a profile like fox can. It is used primarily in salmon flies as mobile over wing. On top of fox. Or as a tail. It tangles much more easily in the hook than the coarser fox hairs. A useful hair but not a replacement for fox.
Bimini15 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2016 Do you mean easy to tangle... like icelandic wool?
Adam Saarinen 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2016 I'm a fan of Himalayan goat over normal goat, normal stuff feels like horse tail!
phg 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2016 I didn't read the whole thread, just the last page, but my preferred source is Badger Creek, also know as eFlyTyer.com: http://www.mwflytying.com/order_info/oi_tails.html I usually see him at one of the fly fishing shows. Good stuff, reasonable prices, etc.
