Norvise dubbing technique by Norm

Recommended Posts

Hello. have any of your Norvise users have problems dubbing short furs such as squirrel using his technique? fibrous synthetics dub with ease but I cannot "catch" the fur and when I do the thread is so twisted that it breaks. if it works for you can you suggest any technique that may help?

I don't know what "Norvise" technique you're asking about ... but I have discovered that squirrel fur/hair is slippery as an eel.

It's a hard material to work with no matter what technique you're using.

so that's how they work, very interesting.

kinda would take some of the fun out of tying from my perspective but fantastic for making flies by the gross for all you pro's.

I was wondering why there was no crank arm on those things.

must have a fly wheel weight inside the bearing housing.

thanks for posting the link bullhead.

sorry I cant help you with the dubbing, but I am sure someone on here will.

Hi all. Mikechell reminded me of something I should have remembered. Squirrel is very slippery!!. I will continue with a dubbing loop. other than that I enjoy dubbing on this vise.

With the Norvise and dubbing as Norm does it there generally is no wax used. You might try a little dubbing wax for those short slippery fibers. I do Norms trick with a standard vise using wax, so give it a try.
