xterrabill 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2018 insanely remarkable !! incredibly powerful!!!! the falcon heavy was something like 2,680,000,000–5,370,000,000 N-sec according to wiki. having met one of the designers of the delta 3 and by using his software I personally have designed and successfully flown/safely recovered my own rocket designs several times, (using "High Power" hobby rocket motors up to 4000 N-sec. total impulse) educated me enough to realize that I understand less them one billionth the amount of engineering it takes to accomplish what they just did. to give an idea of the what that means... some here might remember the rocket kits they used to get when they were kids made by Estes, they had A, B, C, D, motors A motor impulse is about 2.5 N-sec D motor impulse is about 20 N-sec they made a great deal of controlled energy out of liquid oxygen and kerosene! the tesla, bowie and the don't panic (my favorite) gave them 2x N-sec numbers in style points. Very cool indeed!
Swamp Fly 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2018 I really wonder (and Hope) if yesterday was one of those understated mile stones. The results of this may touch us all down the road.
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2018 I heard something about it yesterday but haven't had a chance to take the time to read about it. Is this the rocket they were working on that I read about a while back that can launch and then reset down right where it took off from?

Bimini15 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2018 A former student of mine is a senior launch engineer for Space-X. He is in charge of launches from Cape Canaveral, so these missions are all pretty cool to me. But watching those rockets come down yesterday, that was fantastic.
