brooktrout308 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2017 I was thinking about trying UV glue so I looked up the UV lights and saw everything from what looks like pen lights to what looks like over sized shower head. Is there any advantage to the larger sizes, does size affect the drying process ? now worried about how fast it cures it but in the hardness. I've heard some guys say certain kind don't really cure it, leaves it a slight bit tacky .

mikechell 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2017 Power differences matter. Size differences, I doubt matter. If you're curing the resin on a 1/2 inch long fly, then you only need a light that produces a 1/2" wide beam. Anything wider than that is just wasted energy. islander727 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2017 If you can handle the wait, as they ship from China these work really well. Or pay up to four times the amount and order them from an American seller.

mikechell 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2017 I'm guessing regular run of the mill batteries are out of the question ? Dollar Tree batteries work well. They might not last a LONG time, but it's painless to replace them at the price.
Bimini15 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2017 My light is a $9 cheapo no name from Amazon. Regular batteries work well. I can only remember once where a guy “needed” to DIY a cord to his UV light. Others do have corded nail salon style lamps, if you must.
spiralspey 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2017 I use a $3 light I bought on ebay. It works fine, but sometimes I set my flies outside in the sunlight after using the light just to make sure the resin is totally cured.
