  1. Damn autocorrect clouser not clouded
  2. Bimini What Mike said. Btw, one of my favorite streamer patterns for bass is the wedding veil fly. It is not articulated but I'm sure you could make it that way. I've fished a lot of articulated flies including the game changer but I haven't seen a lot better production. In fact the converse is probably true. My guess is that I'm doing something wrong. For bass fishing I like a popper, dahlberg diver, stealth bomber for the top of the water column. For the middle of the column I like the wedding veil or clouded, and for the bottom the Leviathon bat. Rich Strolis also makes some nice streamers for the middle such as the hogsnare which is articulated and the bloody baitfish which is not. Btw, I like the last white streamer you tied. I fish a whole lot with white in the pattern.
  3. You can use beads to lengthen the articulation and prevent fowling.
  4. Bimini Check out what this guy does. I have a fly cabinet from him. Real nice guy. www.creeknuts.com
  5. Salty Pm your address and I'll send you a batch of feathers
  6. That is spectacular! Love it! I have a blue and gold macaw but I never do anything with her feathers. This is my favorite fly that you have posted.
  7. FRN I have fished for trout in your neck of the woods once. Only truly wild trout I've ever caught. I fished the south fork of the snake one day and the Teton the next. My guide was Dan Oas. He was on the US fly fishing team. I learned a lot. On the south fork caught over 100 in one day. The Teton probably only caught 20 or so. It was a very fun weekend. I fished wife was at a conference at Snow King Resort in Jackson Hole. We had a nice meal at a fine restaraunt every evening. Had plans to go back with a buddy and stay in Victor and fish a few days but a back surgery got in the way. Beautiful area!
  8. Adam I suggest going to los cabos. Rent a vehicle and go fish the miles of beaches. You could even rent a motorcycle. Roosterfish. You'll see it on that blog I sent. When I go to the Baja I generally go gear and blue water. I love it non stop action with a Pacifico cerveza in hand. Afterwords, I like ceviche and maybe a good tequila and some more cerveza. I'll fish in the Keys early next month. I'd like another tarpon.
  9. Steve has built a number of rods for me and my family and friends. He has used a number of blanks and my favorite is a matrix blank that he used on my 10wt. Steve probably comment on that more.
  10. Adam What exactly do you want? It will take some research. The guys that take you on the cheap don't advertise and the equipment is not the best. For instance in San Jose del Cabo you can get a guy in a panga to take you out for 75 bucks. You can catch roosterfish, dolphin and have a legitimate shot at a marlin. What I generally do is go somewhere the family wants to go and then sneak off fishing a day or two and pay a guide. I get in good quality fishing and the family is happy to boot. I've done this in Jackson Hole, Cancun, Cabo, Bahamas, tybee, all over Fla and Sc. I even talked a buddy into fishing the Zambezi while in Zimbabwe hunting buffalo. It wasn't expensive. Cabo by far is my favorite. We stay at an all inclusive and I sneak away. The missus will have a blast. Not to brag but the last time I was there I won a beer chugging contest. Anyway, figure out a way to talk the better half along and keep her entertained is my advice. Happy wife, Happy life!
  11. Steve I got the rod today. Love it. The mermaid rocks! I'll be stringing this bad girl up with some braid today.
  12. Ah, understand....happens from time to time. I like beer, bourbon, and sometimes rum especially on the weekends while tying. Bourbon is local to my home state of Kentucky. What is the national spirit of Finland?
  13. Flygirl Have you tried the squirmy wormy material. They work real well not as pretty as yours though.
  14. Adam You will have to explain "on the piss". What does that mean? Curious. Thanks
  15. Nice. I'll try this one. I did manage some fish on a unique smolt or something like that you tied a while back. It had ostriches, tubing and a cone head if I remember correctly. I fish a lot of streamers with full sink line below Lake Cumberland. A large river that is a cold water fishery for 87 miles. Southern Kentucky. Thank you for all the time you spend doing these sbs. I learn a lot from them.
  16. Also, I use a standup desk at work with a comfort pro gel mat that I stand on. The adjustable desk by steel case is expensive but for me was worth it.
  17. X2 jsmy... I had a spinal burst fracture and lots of surgery to put humpty together again in 2011. A second back surgery in 15 and a third this last October. Changing positions, moving, avoid prolonged sitting are great advice. After that beer and bourbon and rum.
  18. He always does excellent sbs. For purely selfish reasons I wish he did more streamer patterns.
  19. Kudu

    Timber!

Michael Nice but your canoes are awesome still remembering those beauties. Steve Sorry man. Like I told you in my email I have a jackass neighbor on the small farm next to mine that cut a tree down that landed on my fence. My son and I removed it last weekend. Luckily, I didn't have any cattle in that field right now. The funny part is that I forget to tell you is that he some sort of preacher from the Detroit area that has transplanted to Southern Kentucky. His place is a complete sh...hole. Junk everywhere. No pride. Maybe he is kin to your neighbor? No, I don't like him either.
  20. You always make nice flies and now the eyes! Nice!
  21. I always like your stuff. One suggestion is that you put them in the sbs and pattern forum so we can find them again for reference. They are too good to be lost amidst all the posts. Maybe an administrator can move them. Anyway, you do a good job.
  22. Check out the portable tying stations on www.creeknuts.com. I have a chest to put flies in from him. Real nice guy and does good work. Anyway, it will give you some ideas. Good luck!
  23. Steve You absolutely nailed it. I love the mermaid and I can't wait to cast this baby. The concept I'm guilty of playing into is having fun while I fish, drink beer and generally have a ball. I'm a Kentucky redneck and proud of it. Thanks Steve again. Btw, the 10ft 2wt you made me has been slaying the fish this spring already. I'm sure this rod will be as fun as that one. I also plan to catch a shark on the 10wt you made me a few years ago. I'll email pics when it happens.
  24. Crackaig, Outstanding. Very cool. Personally, I'd like to see more of this type of thing.
