  1. I just use plastic storage boxes. I was very unhappy with hooks being mixed around whenever I turned the boxes upside down so what I did to correct that was use a foam sheet to basically form a gasket and glued it to the top of the storage box. Problem solved ! I cut squares a little smaller than the individual boxes out of the foam that way I could still see what was in there and exactly how many I had left.
  2. I use locking hemostats...also called artery clamps...I have a quick release on them and use them both on the tying bench as well as when I go out fishing to retrieve hooks, hold flies, you name it.
  3. GREAT idea... off to staples!
  4. http://rusuperfly.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=20 HERE YOU GO MY LOWERCASE-IMPAIRED FRIEND!!! -- all in good fun --
  5. I was wondering what fly fishing vests you guys use, have tried, and what you liked/didnt like about any that you have tried. So far I have been fishing without a vest just using pockets and a hip pack but am looking into getting a new vest and welcome your feedback. Pictures are always welcome!
  6. The way I see it, when im sitting in my chair I am always leaning forwards to tie flies. having this would help bring the flies closer to him and maybe let his back rest on the chair itself making it more comfortable due to the injury ? I could definitely see this preventing excessive bending over...whatever keeps the back pain-free and keeps you tying flies!
  7. Also, for those of you wondering what this would look like here is a picture I got from another site.
  8. How wobbly it is will depend on how solid your mounting is. If you are using a pedestal base I would expect it to wobble too much to be comfortable honestly but if you are clamping it to your desk and both the desk and the clamp are fairly sturdy it shouldnt wobble too much, not in theory anyways.
  9. If you havent given it much thought before, think again. Dorado. I have caught these up to about 34lbs and at times its like trying to stop a freight train with...well with tippet material... Skip to 4:20 to see the action start.
  10. Nice fish...I also really like that little popper...may just have to try tying some of those myself...doesn't look too complicated atleast...what did you catch that catfish on ? So far I havent had any luck with catfish...I really wanted to catch one this summer but no luck
  11. Could the eyes be weighing it too much and giving the whole fly an erratic flight pattern causing tangles ?
  12. Nice fly, I have tied dragonflies before but never thought about putting a hi-vis piece of foam on top to make it more visible. Since mine are a bright blue ive never had difficulties seeing them. As for the wings I have done 2 variations so far: I have put krystal flash wings with a little of deer hair, and I have also made them out of krystal flash with a strip of zip-loc bag in there (I have also tied X wing patterns with the sandwich bag approach as well) both seem to work well and I havent had problems with my knots. My dragonflies did have a longer and thinner body than the one in your picture though, maybe that has something to do with it ? Flying straighter and wobbling less ? IDK, you guys tell me...
  13. I tie with either GSP 75 denier thread or the GSP Ultra 70 denier...the latter may be pricier but it is REALLY strong and I dont tie that many flies anyways so it doesnt hurt my pocket that much to buy the pricier thread...at 4lb breaking strength and 70 denier I love it...
  14. Could you post an image of the hybrid streamers you've tied so far ?
  15. Thanks for that writeup, bugsy. As of right now ive already got a nice bamboo board marked for drilling as soon as the vice gets here, and the UPS tracking site says Out for delivery. The delivery guy usually shows up either at 10-11am or 2-3pm. Reviewed all the online nor-vise videos yesterday so its just a long and painful wait at this point...watching a movie and having some steak quesadillas for breakfast...its gonna be a good day today...
  16. but since youre apparently not fond of yours, interested in selling it ?
  17. Ive used other bobbin holders where this is the same issue, I just thread it holding the spool and then set the spool in the bobbin holder...is that the only issue with slow loading ? if it is, its a non-issue for me atleast...
  18. Can anyone tell me the diameter of the screws to attach the vise to a baseplate or table ? Also, the height of the screw head (I need to know how much to cut out/countersink the bottom of the base) I didnt buy their bamboo boards and am going to modify a cutting board to serve this purpose and want to have it ready for when my vise gets here
  19. As a new member I have no way of knowing that but I think your reasoning is sound. I was just throwing out an idea that ive seen put in place in other forums. As a business owner I do know the benefits that offering discounts can have in turning over old stock, generating cash flow, and overall making the customer feel more content with their purchase - everybody loves a deal! Having said that, I will continue supporting j stockard and do appreciate the sponsorship that they provide in supporting this forum... I hope nobody took/takes my comments in any way other than they were intended.
  20. Will do. Ill make a mental note to take video of the spin before and after to compare as well as maybe take some pictures of the process that way in case anyone else may want to do it they can have a visual guide to replacing those bearings.
  21. Simply put, if you shorten the tube the needle will take up the whole length of the tube instead of only going most of the way in. If it takes up the whole space, there is no room for glue to stay in the tube and dry in there.
  22. Hmm...would anyone be interested in forum-specific coupons/discounts ? I dont know how open they might be to the idea but if enough people are interested maybe some forum admin could ask about the possibility ?
  23. I second that. I actually made something very similar to that from a small bookshelf that I reinforced, finished with some spray on truck liner, and attached some handles on the side so I could tie it down in the back of my pickup. When friends are always wanting to go fishing with you and they dont have their own gear, its a handy way to take all of the rods which is better than my previous -throw them all in the back of the truck- approach. (By the way, I am not talking about fly fishing rods here, my bass and catfish rods are cheap berkley rods outfitted with various sizes of Abu Garcia reels)
