  1. That looks like a deadly snook fly to me. With mono eyes and a white head that crush them on the beach as well.

    Mardi Gras

Get wasted, but not TOO wasted!!
  3. Hey Bob, how's it going with the dragon tails?
  4. Flytire, I am pretty sure I have never asked about baitfish mono eyes. I have asked a lot, just not on this subject I don't believe ... Piker, that would take too long for me. Also, I would rather just buy them which helps me factor as to how I should price fly... Thanks for the feedback Flats
  5. Sick and tired of the Wapsi/Ole Florida mono eyes breaking/not lasting long. Especially since I sell some flies I should be using the best products possible, and these are definitely not it. Anyone got recommendations for mono eyes (like the ones you would use on a Schminnow)? Flats
  6. He has good stuff for great prices. Congo hair is a favorite among tiers including myself, be beware. It does NOT shed water like EP, making it hard to cast. Ep sheds the water which makes it must easier to cast and fish.

    NFL

Screw that I'll be tying flies
  8. I will never retire. My idea would be doing some guiding here and there, tie some flies, but really just pass everything I will have learned when I'm old to the younger generation. All those old guys who pass tidbits of info, as well as a lot of folks on here who have taught me (remember how my clousers used to look?!). I am very grateful for these people because they have truly helped me learn, which in turn fuels my passion for all things fly fishing. One day, I'll be the crazy old guy with a nickname at the fly shop or the shows gladly passing it on to the next generation. If the knowledge isn't passed down, then in my opinion the true essence of fly fishing is gone. Heard this quote in silver kings. "You did not create this sport nor will you keep it. And you weren't the first one to do it and won't be the last". Moral of the story, pass it on especially to a kid who is hungry for knowledge and truly cares about fly fishing.
  9. I use the Dr Slick as well. I lied to myself and used to use some cheap pair from Michaels, but ended up getting the Slicks a couple months ago. It really is night and day. I think also it depends on the flies you are tying. If you are tying those tiny trout flies, you may want a pair of extra small/fine tips to get into the small areas...

    Crap or Crop?

I call them crappy because well... their size is pretty crappy. Lol
  11. Cool! I honestly had no idea that those people were on this forum. One notable person that I emailed a couple times was with Dick Brown, the bonefish master. He taught me about a couple solid techniques for some bone bugs that I still use. Other than that... However, one must not forget steel drifter. That man is so dedicated and helpful to this forum, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't even get paid! Right on Steve
  12. Mike, funny you say that. My buddy tied some flies using those squirmy tail toys a couple months before mangums tails came out. He has the dates on his instagram all to prove it. Just a matter of having a good idea then taking it to the next level...
  13. I'm worried about them fouling quite a bit. I do believe they work though, the videos of them moving underwater look enticing.
  14. Islander when you have a chance it would be great if you PMed me a link to that. Thanks and that pretty genius
  15. Nice report! My mom is from Buenos Aires so a couple years ago after visiting there we decided the make a stop in Bariloche. We fished the Limay River, and this is where I truly got hooked into fly fishing. Caught one fish (on fly) all day, but it was a beautiful 22" wild rainbow trout. After hearing that reel sing and getting a couple line burns, it was over. I was hooked and the addiction hasn't wavered since. Glad you enjoyed your trip.
  16. Depends on what you're fishing for. Generally, I either use a perfection loop to perfection loop (always in freshwater) or a blood knot (usually in the salt) to connect.
  17. I am on Instagram, check out my page. And welcome to the forum! https://www.instagram.com/saltflies/
  18. I like how you did the barring on those clousers. Gives me some ideas... Nice ties.
  19. Just pitch a gotcha under some mangroves and you'll get some.
  20. That is a good trip man. The fact that you caught that many species wading, on fly, AND in this blizzard is impressive. Can't tell you how many times I've been skunked with perfect conditions. Snook will be tough for fly in the winter. Reports have been saying that they are down deep and grouped together.
  21. That's awesome, wish my handwriting was good like that lmao.
  22. Thank you T, very true even though we may not like it...
  23. I honestly don't even like UV resin... want to try epoxy sometime to see if I like that. Nice tie B15
