  1. Come to think of it the wooly bugger has never gotten so much as a strike for me but i dont fish them much
  2. I'm gonna get my first rotary vise soon and am looking at the Renzetti Traveler 200. Would this be a good choice and if so should I get the clamp or pedestal base? If not what are some other suggestions? Heres the vise: https://www.reelflyrod.com/renzetti-traveler-2000-series-vise.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwlID8BRAFEiwAnUoK1T5tbdU9kEihZr0irKHqWMi9TBfMTPyI4Wy8jkFRsiHN_LC_Rx6HxhoCEhcQAvD_BwE
  3. I actually love carp and am going to try for some tommorow.
  4. These are my first woven patterns. The first is a caddisfly and the 2nd is a caddis larva. Any ideas for where I could go with these?
  5. This is a little fly I've been working on. It is mostly a decorative fly but I may fish it. Recipe: Thread: olive green Hook: size 10 or 12 wet fly hook Tail: peacock sword tips Tinsel: copper Back of body: Olive green dubbing Wing: guinea fowl Front of body: Light green dubbing
  6. I'm the same way. While I do like some of their songs I think the Rolling Stones are much better.
  7. One thing I love about this is there is nothing to do with politics here. I have left other forums in the past because all they want to do is argue about politics. I have never seen this here.
  8. This is a little nymph I've been messing with. I have some more flies that I am yet to get good pictures of and those will be up shortly.
  9. I have seen some post on here of caddis flies that use deer hair as a body an segment it. How is this done?
  10. I've been messing around with bass flies inspired by designs out of Favorite Flies and Their Histories as well as some small topwater frogs for bluegill and bass
  11. I finally caught my first rainbow on the fly. It was a little guy in a mountain stream on a size 12 foam ant.
  12. Recently I have been tying a ton of soft hackles and had the idea of a peacock featered soft hackled wet fly (a real mouth-full I know). The one pictured has a guinea fowl tail and peacock herl body with blue ice pearl tinsel. Also pictured is a feather like what I made it with.
  13. I've been messin around with some soft hackle patterns with peacock herl.
  14. Surprisingly its just a blotchy olive saddle feather
  15. I learned almost fully from McFly, Tim Flager, and Jim Misiura.
  16. Catfish will sometimes go for a muddler minnow. For smallies I would throw clouser minnows. Walleye have been known to go for wooly buggers and definitely bring a few sculpin imitations or stonefly jigs.
  17. As a 7th grader I am unsure how this may go. Most people of my age do not care for it and some actively dislike it. However 2 of my friends and I always bike down to our neighborhood pond with our rods and frequently test new techniques, lures, and flies. I do seem to see an increase in the interest of fishing in the youth but as I said many just do not like anything to do with wildlife or the outdoors and some only like to fish if they catch.
  18. We all have to start somewhere so show where you started. I'll find some pictures but my very first flies were very simple and didn't look terrible but as I began to experiment I made some pretty terrible patterns. i'll find some pictures but my first attempt at a parachute adams had a deer hair post and saddle hackle for the wings. I was well behind most people as a beginner but began to pull ahead. Fly tying is no different than anything else so don't give up and keep tying.
  19. Kimo this will 100 percent catch countless fish!
  20. Thats exactly how i approached it. I ties some good looking soft hackles and wet flies because I want to send him more and dont want them to look like crap.
  21. My family may be going to Cosby, Tn in around four weeks for a 4 day vacation. If we do go what flies should I plan on tying up. The area has one large creek and many small streams feeding into it so my first though would be brook trout flies but does anyone have a more precise idea? Thanks.
