  1. Cool site! I really need to start working with someone on line like that! that looks fun and your stuff sounds GREAT! I Dig it! Are you guys just file sharing to collaborate? I grew up playing heavy music through the late 80 and 90s. Now days I still write some heavy stuff but really prefer to listen to jazz. Here is a clip of the middle of a song I am working on right now. It is on the heavy side. I really would like to work on some R&B or Jazz tunes with someone. I am playing Guitar and Bass in this but really consider myself a Bass player. The picture is of my son on a mountain where we live.
  2. Nice! That looks like my kind of tying space! I will try to get a picture up of my shared tying/recording space. What kind of Music do you play?
  3. I purchased the old version of the loon ergo bobbin. I did not like it. It had big black plastic parts that hold the thread. They did not hold the spool well at all. Years later I was looking at the loon outdoors website and I noticed that they redesigned it with brass parts. I emailed them and told them that I do not like the old version that I have and about the issues I have had with it. They sent me the new version for free. I like the new one so far. Seems like they have great customer service. Nothing wrong with a good hammock!
  4. Nice! I too was born in FL. We left not long after but I always wanted to come back and see Florida. Maybe someday when travel makes more sense.
  5. Thank you for explaining that! That totally explains what happened. I have some of that Loon outdoors Hard Head Clear. I tried it out on a coper john and liked it. Not sure how it compares to epoxy. I am trying to be as kind to my body as possible and have been avoiding epoxy. I worked 20 years in some harsh chemicals and developed Peripheral neuropathy in my feet from the toxins they contained. The alternatives to the "good stuff" never seem to be quite as good. Thank you again for your help!
  6. Wow! Thank you all for so much good information. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your ideas and experience! Philly- Those are some great looking heads for sure! I tested out the SH hard as nails today. The final result had some air bubbles trapped inside. I think I was brushing it on while it was getting sticky. Or I didn't wait long enough between layers. At any rate it was a fun time. I am learning more every day. Sounds like should get some super glue as well and give it a try. Tying is becoming just as enjoyable as catching fish! Thank you all again for your help!
  7. Thank you! Is that Lake Okeechobee FL?
  8. I believe they even call it the Cobra Braid! That will keep the man card!
  9. I am blessed to be able to fish mid week. I try to find a place to be alone. If I am on a river and can see other people I personally need to go deeper into the woods. That is what I try to provide others with as well. I try to stay out of sight of other folks fishing. More of a personal need than respect I suppose. We still have a lot of open space here and you can often be the only boat on a lake. I am sure my kids won't see that for too much longer. I take what you said seriously, simple things like Leaving the woods cleaner than you found it and properly caring for wildlife/fish you encounter are tremendously important. I would also like to add be prepared when you go out into the woods or on the water. I spent 4 years with Search and Rescue. I believe that part of respect is remembering that the decisions you make can result in situations that cost lives. mikemac1 I totally agree with you. Follow the laws. Good topic. Good reminders Thanks
  10. Thank you! I will try the finger nail polish this time. I have been using Loon Outdoors Just wondered if there was some kind of standard. Sound like the thick or thin stuff will fish fine! Thank you again
  11. Thank you for the response. I have some SH Xtreme wear hard as nails. I just got it and have not used it yet. I will give it a try. up till now I have been using Loon Outdoors head cement and it soaks up and disappears. Thanks again
  12. Hi, Do you guys use a thin head cement that absorbs into the threads or a thick glossy head cement for things like Clouser minnows and streamers with heads of built up thread? Any standard rule? I am not sure it really matters once the thing is under water? Thank you
  13. Lol! That is too funny! I actually wondered how many people would think that. Thanks for the encouragement! Again I am looking forward to getting to know everyone. Thanks again.
  14. cphubert and Poopdeck- This has been a great experience so far thank you so much for the welcome! I look forward to getting to know everyone.
  15. I just googled them. They look interesting for several things I am attempting to tie. Thanks again!
  16. I have never tied on a jig hook. I will have to give that a try! Thanks
  17. Hi from another new guy! It is so nice to connect with others that enjoy the same things.
  18. Hi, I joined a couple days back but just noticed this section. So I am PBass as in Fender P Bass guitars. I am a married father with two boys still at home. I live up north by the Canadian border in Idaho. I have been obsessed with fly fishing for about 20 years and seriously tying flys for about 6 months. I have been really enjoying the forum and am blown away at the talented people I see posting here. Some of the flys and photography I see here are works of art. I have so much to learn. For me life is about Faith, Family, and trying to slow down and let go of the stress.
  19. My take on the Flash Monkey. Just adding this to the list of patterns I am learning. I think I will go try it out next week. Thanks
  20. I want to frame the pictures of your flys and hang them on my wall! Man! Amazing tying and photography!
  21. Idea I am missing the opportunity for fly tying in groups like at our library. This social distancing thing. What if you did a project where you pick a super common fly and had as many tiers as possible put footage in Drop Box for you. You could pick what footage looks good. You could cut from one person to the next like 10-15 seconds and post the state the flyer is from on screen during the short part of the video they are in. Like one guy pulls out his vise, then cut to another guy who puts a hook on, so on and so on. Start with you and end with you completing the fly. Might be too much work editing but would be a cool bring the community together project.
  22. Justin H Thank you! This fly is the fly that forced me to start tying. I just could not find them anywhere. I used to have to call a friend that owns a local fly shop and ask him if he would tie me up a dozen or two. I always felt bad asking him as he is a very busy guy. But now the tying addiction has taken hold of me and I don't ever want to buy another fly. So fun and rewarding to tie the fly yourself and then catch a fish with it. Should I have said this in a quote to your post?
  23. cphubert Thank you very much! So much for me to learn but a lot of fun.
  24. New Guy here and new to tying. I am amazed that the skill levels I see in so many of these pictures! WOW! Inspiring! This is a Yuk Bug I tied. Not a spectacular Job or difficult fly but one of my favorites to fish. I did trim the legs down a bit after the photo. Thanks
