I have no intention of purchasing a full skein of Lion brand yarn for tying a few flies.

I substituted with Uni yarn

Note - William Scripture Jr described a number of his variations of his "favorite fly".

They are labeled for convenience only as, variations A-C.

HuckleStone

Huckle-Stone.jpg

Hook: from the recycle bin, #10 I think

Thread: Dark brown

Weight: .020 wire

Tail: Goose biots, brown

Rib: D-rib, small, clear

Abdomen: Mixed Huckleberry brushings with yellow & brown Aunt Lydia's rug yarn

Wing case: Turkey tail

Legs: Hen pheasant

Thorax: Same as abdomen

Head: Wing case folded back on itself. (I tried to get fancy there, didn't come out quite as I intended, but it'll fish.  Need to leave a little more room between the lead and the eye next time.)

SHHAN on head and wing case.

Nice, I like that, interesting the thorax material.   Do you have a reference for this pattern?

Thanks,

I thought you mentioned Hughes earlier.  I have his 'Essential Trout Flies', but the recipe listed in there is different.

Yes, I am tying every fly in the book. All but one of the flies I have posted since I returned have been from the above mentioned book. I would be interested in seeing the recipe in "Essential Trout Flies'
