All but one of the flies I have posted since I returned have been from the above mentioned book. I would be interested in seeing the recipe in "Essential Trout Flies' from Essential Trout Flies, Dave Hughes, 2000, p.65 More like a variation of the Bitch Creek nymph. I did a little research and, apparently, the fly in the book I am working on is Hughes' version of Charlie Brooks Montana Stone. I would provide a link, but every time I try I get an error message. https://www.spencerewert.com/WesternTroutFlies/CharlesBrooks.html Or not. Worked that time. He does mention the influence Charles Brooks had on his stonefly patterns in the short chapter I referenced above. I'll put those on my 'to do' list (again). I actually sat down to tie a some stones last night as I couldn't sleep. chugbug27 did a nice SBS on Brooks' stone and Hughes variation a while back. It should have clicked. TSMcDougald 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2023 Now that you mention it I remember reading chugbug27's SBS. Anyway, here is a picture of Hughes' version (from his book): Note: I over did it on the thorax!
